Adding in more fat.

Yay for Starbucks Protein Packs... I've found 2 different varieties and usually there is just one carby thing to throw out and the rest is good protein. Plus at least where I live, there is practically a Starbucks on every corner. It has definitely saved me on days when I forgot to bring food.

They also have packs of roasted almonds and cashews that are good in a pinch.

I love, love some avocado mixed with my food. Good fat, good taste, and I am in heaven. I eat a measured amount and do very well with it. For cooking, I use a little extra virgin olive oil.

That's interesting that you are drawn to the fats. I'm drawn to the carbs. I find I have to really work to get my protein in when I'm not tracking. It's easier to have cereal with soy milk than make some scrambled eggs, for example.

I can tell when I'm not getting enough protein by the state of my hair, btw, plus I still try to do a rough count in my head. That's how I know I'm not getting enough.

Mac, what changes do you see to your hair? I think I'm getting plenty of fat and protein - I aim for 100-120 gms of protein, but usually end up around 80-100. My hair looks ok, but I've noticed it's breaking off alot. This may be from using a straight iron, but I use 2 different products to protect from heat.

It falls out. If I go below around 100 g a day for a few days in a row, it can come out in clumps like it did early out... maybe 25 hairs at a time in the shower.

When I think about it, you are right I am naturally drawn to carbs, but they have been on my "no go" list for so long, that I just don't even remember about many of the foods that have them.  Unless I am going through TOM, in which case I remember all too well.  :)   When I want to indulge now, I am drawn to nuts and cheeses.  If I am no****ching the fats, they creep right back in through cooking method and extra cheese but at least for now they have not become a problem.

I think carbs also do things with endorphins. But cheese has something calming too - tryptophan.
