Have you guys every heard of Somersizing?  It  is a food combining lifestyle exactly like what you are talking about that will help you lose weight and keep it off if you followed the lifestyle.  The books are written by Suzanne Somers and all though some have laughed at her about it, it does seem to work.  I have several of her recipe books that I need to dig them out and start using!

Proteins, veggies, and fats together.

Good carbs, veggies, NO fats, NO protein.

Fruits alone on an empty stomach.

No sugar, white flour, potatoes, rice, etc.  It has a lot of good fruits, veggies, lean meats/seafood, and good fats.

Thank you for reminding me of these!   It may be exactly what I need right now.

I agree adding the carbs is the issue...to Frisco's point..but I just eat that big ole greasy piece of pizza or burger and ditch the bread! For YEARS of dieting I ate pizza..I just ditched the Cheese...(fat WAS evil) but now I am in hog heaven eating all (1 piece) that yummy meat and cheese! Same goes for burgers...I don't like to do fast food but if I HAVE to..I have no problem ordering a kiddie burger and ditching the bread...just give me plenty of pickles! :)

May I ask why you HAVE to eat the fast food?  There is so much filler and sodium in it.  Are there other options, like packing your own meals, or eating a Starbucks protein pack?  I would consider changing that long term.  Even the meat at the fast food is a combination of carbs, meat and fat.

Well... I have HAD to eat fast food VERY RARELY in the past 8 months...and not that I have to justify anything to you regarding this but yes I HAD to eat fast food. Like when I am in the middle of a ******g mountain range and have been driving for 12 hours to help my brother in crisis and a burger king is the only option for like 200 miles and I am woozy needing to eat and need something I can eat and drive with..so OMG I bought a kiddie cheeseburger and ATE it!!! WITH PICKLES!

Or the time I was going to kill my kids on another NON STARBUCKS (HORROR!) adventure and chick fil A was the closest thing in site...

But wait..that's right...I don't have to explain **** to you.

You need to watch how you speak to people.

I am educated grown  woman who makes excellent decisions and has AMAZING judgment!

I eat primarily organic whole foods in my home. I am well read and well versed in nutrition and health.

I have seen the movies and read the books. I was impressed initially with your post because it reminded me of the book "Good Calories/Bad Calories" An excellent read with regards to the bill of goods this country has been sold regarding the whole LOW fat DISASTER that has become the Western Diet.

I realize my off the cuff remarks regarding fast food *******ized you otherwise most purely intended post but I was meerly expressing my little personal AH HA moment when faced with challenging situations..like Frisco's mention of pizza and burgers specifically.

If I wanted your advice I would have asked for it.

Sometimes people really do HAVE to do ****like eat fast food.

I realize we don't know each other very well but how RUDE of you to assume I'm some kind of MORAN...Perhaps that is something you should consider changing long term.,.*just saying*

I think we all agree that most fast food is to be avoided as there are few good choices at most such restaurants. At the same time, its a fact of life that for family and travel and time limits and other reasons we may find ourselves with fast food being the only option once in awhile. I find that most places have a grilled chicken sandwich that I can get and not eat the bread which I use like a potholder. I have heard some places will sell you the chicken without the bread. Carl's jr. has a low carb burger wrapped in lettuce though I find its too big and I am better with a plain hamburger and again skip the bread. An order of refried beans at Taco bell works ok. Don't have much experience with pizza places but one small slice in maintenance wouldn't hurt me other than I would have to supplement protein in some other way. I have heard you can go to Subway and buy just the meat and cheese part of the sandwich and they will make an adjustment but I haven't tried it. Even if not, just don't eat the bread. I recently traveled alone and Panda Express was close. While much of their stuff was breaded and fried, there were a few dishes that were chicken and vegetables and you can get a single entree order without rice or any sides for $3. That worked pretty well.

So I avoid fast food places too but once in awhile find myself with no choice. Best to know ahead of time what each such place offers so you can make a decent choice. And I always travel with a couple of protein bars just in case. Sometimes that and a lowfat milk from a convenience store make a meal.    Diane

Exactly my point..not something you want to do a lot of...but if you HAVE to...its good to know you have options...

Thanks for sharing some good ideas that will work in a pinch!

I can't speak for Elina but I believe she was just trying to offer support.  Sometimes we offer support even though it might not necessarily be needed; it's hard to tell online.  I don't think she was meaning to lecture you or anything.

I am friends with her IRL and I know that she has a good heart and is well-meaning. To be honest *I feel* as if your response to her unsolicited advice was a bit harsh given the context; perhaps you are having a bad day.   FWIW I agree with you that the whole low fat thing in this country is ridiculous.

I do know that eating perfectly in this day in age is next to impossible and sometimes you have to just make the best choice you can given your cir****tances.  I totally think that a burger with the bread taken off is a good choice when you are in a pinch and need your protein, especially some places like burger king that don't use fillers or spices.

I worked there as a teenager and made the burgers myself, so I KNOW how they are made from real beef patties with no spices or fillers, flame broiled.  Unless they've changed the recipe since I've worked there.  The thing is that in our country there is SOOO much conflicting information about nutrition.

This is (as you probably know) financially driven because people that want to sell you food fund biased studies/research that says their food is healthy.  It's the same thing for people that want to sell you sunscreen and tell you that sun exposure give you cancer.  They tell you that the natural food and sunshine we evolved for millions of years exposed to is now "unhealthy".

I have no idea how we evolved as a species if we were eating unhealthy food (meat that we hunted) and exposed to the sunshine all day long and not dying all over the place of cancer from all that meat and sunshine.. LOL.  There's a really great movie called Fathead.. wonderful and I highly recommend it if you are interested.

Perhaps You are right that I was a bit harsh but not completely off the mark. I expressed up front that it wasnt something I like to do or do often..regarding the FF(fast food) not to be confused with the dreaded FF (fat free!) issue...or the beloved(and hated) FF(french fry!) Anyhow...I digress....

I think the misunderstanding is partly due to my poor eyesight. :)  Let me explain, I read your response on my iphone and because of the tiny print, I read, " I HAVE to eat fast food" instead of " if I HAVE to eat fast food".  That tiny little "if" makes all the difference in how I interpreted your post.  I thought that for work reasons, or some other reason, you felt that you HAD to eat fast food, not just once in a while, but quite a bit.  I just wanted to tell you that there are alternatives.  If you were sitting in my family room and we both had a glass of wine and chatted, we would probably never had this misunderstanding.  I would have heard your correctly, and you would have seen my face and body language and would know that I had no disrespect in mind.  I am sorry I hurt your feelings.  It was never my intent to do so.  I DO give out advice freely and this was unsolicited advice.  I also receive quite a bit of advice. Some is great, some not so much.

On a different note, I noticed an interesting thing when I read your response to me, and I wanted to share it.  I read your response just before lunch time, and I was really hungry today.  Well, after I read the response, and of course became defensive, and felt my adrenalin kick in, I realized I had lost all my hunger.  :)  I was away from my computer and had to read it on the iphone and wait until I got home to respond, so for those two hours I felt zero hunger.  I was really preoccupied with what I wanted to tell you.  Adrenalin is an amazing hormone.  I am starting to think that some of my overeating might have been due to boredom and lack of adrenalin.  Just something I noticed today.  Take care, I hope the rest of your day is better for you.

Apology accepted...I could see (no pun intended) how that could happen and is a very reasonable response if in fact I had given the impression that I had no choices beyond fast food..

I am sorry if I was too harsh... I am a work in progress and I am working on the journey not only from fat to thin but also from pushover to assertive..although I am new at all of this so sometimes my pendulum swings all the way to aggressive..(especially when it is summer vacation and my house is blessedly a flutter with at least 3-5 rowdy kids at all times! My fuse was short this morning...)

I will take all credit for any loss you have as a result of all this! If you see a 102 tomorrow you can have me to thank! ;)

PS...Now using larger text..dont use my phone for internet stuff..never occurred to me, thanks for making me aware.

Regards,
Elizabeth
