I made one of my goals today

Hello all hope all is well with you all today. I am all most a year out now next month. For the past 6 months I would see people running on the treadmill or on the street and I would tell my husband I want to run.

He kept telling me I could but I smoked 21/2 packs of cigarettes for like 10 years and when I would try to run it killed I could not breath.
.
But today I am so happy to say I jogged my first mile at the speed of 3.5 it took me 17.07 seconds but I did it I kept telling my self the whole time I could do this. I ran this after I walked 40 minutes after walking at 3.5 I was not ready to quit so running started.

Thanks all this group is great.
My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

Congratulations!  I'll never be able to run since I ruined my knees with the excess weight.  But I walk daily and feel great.  The bad news is that I have enough energy to go further, but my knees give out after 1.5 miles.  So when I can, I walk a mile twice daily. ....well I change it up every time because I want to keep tricking my body into burning calories and not getting used to the same length every time.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Ticker includes Pre-op weight loss 24 lb.

congratulations!  I can jog a bit - it actually feels better than speed walking - but I also have bad knees and can't do "running" for any length of time.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Great job!  I started out on a treadmill in February.  I ran a 5k at the end of March with a goal of just running the whole thing.  Then I ran my first 10k April 30th, again with a goal of running the whole thing and finishing.  My slogan during all the 'training' runs for these races?  'Excrutiatingly Slow, beats Did Not Finish, beats Did Not Start'

I've never been a runner, but now I'm addicted to it.  LOL  I'm sure you'll be addicted in no time and revel in the freedom and peace of running like I do.  Good luck and Congratulations on taking your first steps to being a runner!

What a wonderful accomplishment!! Not only do I want to be able to run, but I want the confidence to actually start. I have the fears of people looking at me, just as when I was 97lbs heavier. I will work on that confidence, & hopefully one day be able to post about my jogging/running experiences..Thanks for the inspiration!

I know the feeling! I've been into walking and bike riding daily for about a month now. Although I can do it, the running isn't as friendly to me since my left knee is just about toast (I got it shot up with Synvisc-One® so that I could be more physically active).
Congratulations on the run!!!... Craig
