Exercise for the exercise challenged. :)

I really liked working with a trainer -but now that we'll be paying a mortgage won't be able to do that consistently. My plan is to set up a workout area at home - in either the garage or rec room - using rubber floor mats, a couple of mirrors on the wall, and an excercise ball, my dumbells, kettlebell, bands and maybe a weight bench, and to have a few sessions with a trainer to set up a routine using my home equipment. Then maybe have the trainer come back to tweak the workout schedule every 6 weeks or so.

I also just bought some Nordic walking poles - of course I haven't actually USED them - but I will! Nordic walking is supposed to increase actual exertion/calorie expenditure (because of better engagement of upper body and core) while reducing perceived exertion - and also is protective of the joints in the lower body - important for me because of osteorthritis in my knees and ankles. If I ever get around to it I'll report on my experience!

Sorry to butt in,  still early on with my losing, but love the inspiration in the maintenance (I call you the "I wanna be") group.
My sister loves her workout tapes; zumba, other dancing and yoga, no worries about ego, lack of coordination or costume malfunctions in your own living room.   She also does yoga and plays games on the Wii.
My mother in law tones and stretches with Tai Chi videos.  Very relaxing, but a good workout nonetheless.
Hope some of these sound like fun.  That seems to be the key to sticking with it.

Please, please, please, butt in whenever you like.  We love good advice around here and that is not limited to people at goal.  Do you know any good Zumba videos?  I would love to try it, but I am a bit self-conscious in a class setting.

Hi Elina,  I asked her and she got them from the TV ads.  No name just "ZUMBA!".    Hope that helps.

Hey Elina,
I am 8 months out now and only had been walking for exercise. I started two'ish months ago exercising. I had to get to the "right place" ...meaning
#1 I did not want to die from exercising..for real.
#2 I did not want to just up and say I was going to join the gym and be an epic fail.
#3 My mind had to be on point with my "new" body. I have had some wrapping my mind around it all to do. I had to firmly grip my success in this.
#4....I NEEDED A TRAINER..cause what the heck did I ever know about exercising correctly.
For me, it has been one of the single best things since having surgery. I have been lucky enough to find the right match for me the first time. He knows just what to make me do. He did not start me out to fail by doing too much. Could I do them at home? OF COURSE.  But the bigger question for me is WOULD I do them at home? I know you are much more disciplined in your success so I am sure this is not an issue for you. You will do well. This is just me. I love having a person to be accountable to. I love showing up to work out...it truly makes me feel like a "10".
I mean can you believe this...I worked out on VACATION! Now sister, that is saying something. I sought out the gym at our resort and went to it. It was awesome.
I wish you luck on the workouts. I know you can find stuff on Youtube like the others have said. I can say that having a trainer set you up some routines will be so helpful. I have certainly learned that muscle groups, FORM, and frequency is so important. You will be so surprised at how much form makes the difference. I was.
Good luck.
