feeling a little lost

I had my surgery april 18th. The first 10 days I lost 23 and one half pounds. Six weeks out and I have only lost 35. When I first came home I was still on oxygen so my walking was limited. I am walking now and soon star****er areobics. I feel I am not losing enough now. I have been very careful about my portions and what I eat, but it doesnt seem to come off. I also feel hungry at times and this bothers me. I will not give up but I want to see a difference. Words of encouragement gratefully needed. I am getting my protein without shakes so I do not have these between meals. I am watching my carbs carefully. What am I doing wrong? Or what could I be doing I am not. All of you have been so succesful, I want that also. Glad to be back!

Hello, Sara and welcome. Six weeks and you have "only" lost 35 lbs? That's amost 6 lbs per week! AND it sounds like you have gone through the wringer at first. Don't worry, you WILL lose the weight. Heck, if I can do it, ANYBODY can!

I agree.. Relax!  You are doing great.  You don't give numbers, but my standard answer would be to up water and protein a little and maybe things will get moving.

It is almost impossible to give reasonable advice when you don't include numbers.  I would hope that you are journaling every bite that goes into your mouth and that you are getting in between 600-800 cals, 70+ protein, and 40 or less g. of carbs.  That is what I was told to do and it worked for me.  If you can't get the 600 cals. in at this time, don't worry about it, just concentrate on keeping your protein up.  You are doing just fine overall, but I really hope you are journaling everything.

35 lb in 6 weeks is much better than many very successful VSGers have done.
You have to have a little more patience, and remember to stick with your eating plan whether you are seeing the results that you expect, or not. It comes off, but not necessarily on the timeline that we would like. Everyone is different, but

Wishing you all the best, Carol

35 lbs in 6 weeks is excellent. I checked my records and i only lost 27 in that time. And I eventually got to goal and lost every single excess pound. So just because things are not as fast after the first few weeks doesn't mean anything is wrong. Most people settle into 10 or fewer pounds a month loss. I lost as slow as 4 or 5 and usually more like 6 or 7. But I got there. You just have to keep to your surgeon's program, track you food religiously, and you will lose your weight. You don't mention your calories but most of us were told to stay 600 to 800. Now its just a question of sticking it out. If you feel hungry have a half protein drink. Extra protein is good and holds off hunger. Sounds like you are doing fine. Diane

I agree with the others.  You are actually doing just fine.  Write down everything, including calories, protein and carbs.

I have to say that in the beginning, I wasn't seeing much difference in how my clothes fit, which made me feel like I wasn't making progress.  Did you take "before" pictures?  I took pictures every month, so when I looked at the pictures, I could see the difference.  I couldn't "see" the difference when looking in a mirror.  If you haven't already taken pictures, take one now then keep it up.  It really helps to go back and see how you have progressed.

It also seemed like I didn't go down in sizes very much in the early days.  I think that has something to do with the larger sizes.  When I got to a 20 I started dropping sizes  more quickly, even though I wasn't losing as much as in the beginning.

It's a process, but as long as you follow the program, you will lose.

Good luck!

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Thanks everyone! I do have a food journal but I have not been religous, I will be now. I did find I was having protein drinks between meals per nutritionist. Doctor says no I am getting enough protein. You are all so wonderful I could not do this without you. Please stay in touch Sara
