Hard times... (long)
Have you ever considered going on an antidepressant? I did when I was going through a very rough time with my family and it made all the difference. In fact even though I feel good now, I am still on it...no side effects , I am just afraid to go off of it. Think about it.
I have also learned something the hard way...not taking care of myself makes things worse and makes me feel worse. I always think of the airline speach when they talk about wearing the oxygen masks if the plane goes down..and they tell you to put yours on first so then you can help others. And hard times are like that too....we need to take care of ourselves so that we can be there for others...like our children. I know it is hard during these time...but think about that. The visual is very motivating to me.
The other thing that helps alot...is couseling...you might want to think about that. It helped me alot too.
Sorry no magic words...but a BIG hug sent to you and please know I really mean it when I say I would be happy to meet up and let's talk. hang in there.

I could just totally use friends *****mind me to keep getting my exercise, tanning and herbal stuff and keep taking care of myself. Please share what meds you have used and works good for you because I would like to have recommendations in case I decide to go that route.
I have gone to therapy regularly for years so that has helped me get through this too. I think the hardest part is just I feel like a witch a lot of the times and I have fears people will be offended or reject me or disown me because of my depression induced crankiness.
That's part of the reason I feel the need to tell people about what I am going through so maybe they'll excuse me when I am cross or short or seem like a witch. They'll say to themselves, hey she's going through a lot, she didn't mean that. It's scary though to think of hurting or offending or losing others unintentionally.

Some of the antidepressants do cause withdrawal and need to be withdrawn slowly to prevent withdrawal effects. They do not cause permanent damage. Bupropion or Wellbutrin is the most weight neutral antidepressant out there, but it isn't always as helpful as an SSRI. Treatment depends upon your symptoms and medical history. Stay away from paxil and remeron since they are known to put weight on.

I can't offer any emotional advice as I've not been in your shoes. I do want to express my heartfelt sympathy to you though. You are in a hugely rough patch, and yes- you are the one that is going to have to take care of yourself, and your psyche.. do what you need to to stay grounded and not keep any of those frustrations inside where it will just nibble away at your corners.
I know you've received many recommendations for some external meds/natural meds to help. I have one to add to the mix.. I have had major depression over the years, and suffer from S.A.D. on occasional winters. I also deal with the short temper and lashing out (at myself and others) when I'm depressed, including sleeping up to 12hrs a day. I have taken SAM-e with great success in my winter episodes.
There is plenty of info out there on the web about it- so I will leave that to you, just wanted to give you a heads up. I had also tried St. Johns wort with only very minor success- but SAM-e really did change things for the better- fast. Do be careful though, if you are predisposed to manic episodes it can trigger it in some folks. There are even some studies showing that it boosts the effectiveness of SSRI's when used in combination. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them based on what I've experienced. Other than that- the best RX drug I've taken was Wellbutrin, but the side effects eventually were just not worth it- nausea & flushing.. so I switched to SAM-e as needed.
I know I don't know you very well, but I have always appreciated your input here.. ((hugs))

Thank you for sharing your experience. The short tempered issue is terrible; you end up pushing away your support system when you need them the most. Thank you for telling me about your good experience with SAM-e.
I have not had any experience with that but I will look into it. It's good to know there are other options. Also good to know that you had a good experience with Wellbutrin. I will keep that in mind as I go through this rough patch.

My first impression of you is that you are this really strong, confident, do it yourself woman who is capable of moving mountains! I can see all of that from your posts. You seem like a person that is always willing to share and give the best advice. I am so sorry that you are going through this. I would definitely say give yourself a hug and love yourself more than you ever have! You are worth the very best and that is why you have been so successful at losing weight, raising a son, having a full time job, putting up with a strained marriage, making your own meals, exercising regularly, etc! There are so many people that would crumble to the pressure and you are living it everyday! You are an everyday superwoman! I think you are amazing and should be so proud of yourself. I read in several of your posts that you feel like you "should" have lost more weight by now. Don't "should" yourself! You have lost an incredible amount of weight and it looks like you are going to come out of all of this a stronger person both mentally and physically! Your goals will be met but nurture your heart along the way! You deserve it!
Please message me if you ever need someone to talk to! I can tell a lot of people here genuinely care about you! MUCHO HUGS!!!

Wow, thank you for such kind words and compliments. You are right, I have done well considering what I am going through. I guess I keep looking for good things to happen to kind of make me feel better about what is going on, and the weight thing isn't something that is lifting my mood right now.
I miss the accomplished feeling of dropping the pounds, but I'm not behaving in the way that would get that result right now due to stress, so it's a catch 22. So far things have been amicable between my husband and I; I pray things continue that way. Again thank you for saying such good things about me. It really lifts my spirits.
