I weigh less than my Doctor

Today I volunteered for the Long Island Medical & Surgical Weight Loss Expo. This was hosted by New York Bariatrics & Laparoscopy. This is my Surgeons practice. I was honored to participate.

It was an awesome event and I met a couple of people from OH including, Mimi, Maryellen and Rachelena.

Several things happened today which made me jump over a major hurdle in my life of Body Dysmorphia. Even though I lost 150 pounds. I still viewed myself as a fat person and still tried to loose more weight.

1) I went through a health screening where they took my Weight, Blood Pressure, and calculated BMI. Blood pressure was a little high (but it's normal for me) 130/80. I weighed in at 208 pounds. I figured that to be in line with my measurements as I normally weigh in first thing in the morning before any fluids and clothing. This morning I weighed in at 204.8. This made my BMI 29 but my fat was 32.5 pounds which equivalates to 15.7%. I admit I was a little bummed about the BMI but the Tech said this was good as I was a good ratio of Muscle to Fat. She said I shouldn't loose anymore that I looked great.

2) I did the health screening with a women from our local support group. We were going back and forth arguing that the other was skinner. I thought she was being kind but after going back and forth several times she was serious and the tech agreed.

3) I was sitting in a seminar on plastics with another guy from our local support group. When Dr. Nishimura sat in front of us. Before the seminar began...We were discussing the results of the screenings. I mentioned to him my weight. Dr. Nish turned around and said. "I can't believe I weigh more than you now". I said what do you weigh? He said 210.  I was floored. After the seminar concluded. He turned back around and said "make sure you're getting your protein in...You need at least 70 Grams a day". I replied back..."Dr. Nish do you see what I have in my hand...It's a Optifast bar...There's 14 Grams in this baby". He said "I'm not referring to you...I know you're getting your protein in..." Then I realized it was directed to the other gentlemen.

4) I took a picture with Mimi. I was very excited to meet her. She looked great we talked for a bit I remembered how she lost so much weight before her surgery. She did an excellent job working her sleeve. Then I saw her post, the picture on the maint group. Then I saw several conversations about how good I looked. Gotta say it makes a fella feel good.

So I'm finally declaring victory and am happy with the results of my surgery. I no longer believe that I'm still fat.

I'm revising my goal range from 205 - 210 to 200 - 205 as I have been in the 200 - 205 range for a couple of months now. I feel comfortable here.

Thanks everyone for your support...I really appreciate it.

Mike,

I saw your photo on the maintenance group board and thought - Wow, he looks great!  I think it is loving to accept yourself and declare the weight loss part of your journey over and maintenance officially begun.

I did want to say... if there are any meet ups in the NYC area this summer I'd love to know about it.  I will be in from Tanzania for about 6 weeks and would love to meet up with other VSGers.

I work in NYC...So it's not a far stretch to meet up. I'm not a great organizer but I'll meet up with anyone in the five boroughs or LI that's interested. Maybe we can do a group thing like they did out west.

I love that you weigh less than your surgeon.  Major congrats on your new personal realization about your accomplishments and successes.  I think each of these moments are so important in accepting who we are now....and what we need to do to stay focussed!  Great stuff.

You really *have* done so well, Mikey!!  And the whole body composition thing, those numbers are not trying to get in your pants or blow sunshine up your man-skirt! That is hard score, damned straight, pure D FACTUAL INFORMATION.

Your labs tell you you are healthy that way, your composition tells you that you are healthy that way - sometimes you have to believe fact over feeling and decide THAT'S HOW YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL THE END PERIOD SO WHAT SHUT UP!

Yaaaay!

*victory lap*

VICTORY SPANKINS!!!

Yaaaay!!!  :}

I am so glad you are *seeing* different/better/clearly!!  Just a tiny shift can make a HUGE difference!

MORE SPANKINS!!

What a great thing to participate in. And to underweigh your doc! What fun!!   Sounds like a super event.

Made me think about my weight in comparison to my surgeon. He is about 6'5" tall and when i weighed  247, I am sure I outweighed him by a ton even though I was over a foot shorter. Now I am sure I weigh a whole lot less. Tee hee. I used to outweigh a lot of men that I worked with. Not anymore. Only other women can understand how it feels to outweigh men in your life. My husband has always outweighed me but now he can pick me up like a bride!!

Anyway, great post Mikey. I saw the pic and it was awesome. How good of you to volunteer at this event and inspire others as you no doubt did. And yeah, I think mother nature is telling you that you can drop a couple more pounds even though you don't need to. Great job.

Diane
