I find it works to add a squeeze of lemon, a packet of Propel or a packet of artificial sweetener to water. The reason it's harder for some of us to drink has to do with the surface tension of our stomach fluids in the shape of our new stomach. Adding something to the water helps the water break the surface tension and mix better with our stomach acids.

 It was another post-op but he's an engineer (mechanical, I think, so would be up on things like surface tension)
