5 day pouch test
Can someone tell me what is a 5 day pouch test.
Have fallen off the weight loss wagon. Will be 2 years since surgery in September. Time to saddle up and start my journey again.
Has anyone else experience this. Before surgery I was NOT a sweet eater, since surgery I crave sweets and it has been a downfall for me.
suggestions???

It was something created for Roux-en-Y folks to help them realize that YES they did still have their pouchy tool, when they were worried they had broken it.
It mostly mimics the beginnings of our time as postops, it goes through 5 days of liquids to solids.
Some folks will do it, or a couple of days of shakes to decarb themselves.
***My personal disclaimer
To me *just for me* this is a return to crash dieting/yoyo dieting/binging and purging. *ITS NOT FOR EVERYONE!* Some folks can do it with a loving intention to decarb themselves, I do understand that!
But for me, its the beginning of disordered thinking AGAIN - and that's a monkey that is hard to kill - like sugar!
Anyway Yes, I too have a sweeter tooth after surgery, but I have one rich sweet thing a day that is high protein also (and I also have it AFTER I have a smaller protein meal, so its not just sweetnes****ting my system and my system thinking YAAY WE CAN LIVE ON SWEET STUFF and then begging for it).
For me? I have a strategy that keeps me from straying into supah carbville except on rare occasions, but I know that after I do, there is a mental price to pay, and for *me* the way to get back to "balanced" is to not swing the pendulum back to liquids (where in reality what is GOING to happen is I am setting myself up for a huge honkin binge because of deprivation mentality) but for me - I just eat dense protein meals, cut out frills and just go back to my meals being dense protein with a little flavor, maybe some cheese - maybe some veggies, but for me, veggies with my meat shuffle my meat through the tum faster.
So - the way that works for me is
*carb party in my mouth yaaaayyy* Then - back to hospital corners with tight sheets. I eat on a schedule (every 3 hours), I feed myself excellent nutritional food that tastes good (because this is not to punish me - this is to help me get back on my even keel!) and I practice remembering how GREAT it is when I am not some stankin food's ***** and answer its every whine and whimper!!
:}
Again - some folks can do the 5 day thing in a loving manner towards themselves, but it kind of breaks my heart, because a lot of folks - they are really just binging and purging and THEN they are pissed off about how they never should have gotten this surgery because they yoyo diet the same way they did before surgery!!
Its a shift in perception - this!
Also! Make sure to get your water in and take your vitamins!! AND ENOUGH SLEEP!! All of those things help the transition to "master of your own domain" go so much easier!!
Good luck, my friend!! DO let us know what works for you! Because not everything works the same for everyone!

I told you you would like it here! If you really have your heart on the 5 day pouch test, you can google it and all the info is there. But I would not do it. I think the best thing you can do for yourself is to reset your eating using real food. No more gimmicks. Make a detailed plan and stick to it. This is not punishment just a reset. Go back to what worked so well to get you here. It still works.
I'm on day 3 of a revised-for-me 5DPT. Basically for VSG patients, it's just going back to eating the way we did right after surgery. I'm doing it to help me get back on track. I've been fighting with the same 2 lbs for 2 months now so felt like I needed a little help. What I have discovered is that I had let a lot of carbs back into my eating without even realizing it. Since starting, I've lost 2 lbs but more than that I've gained insight on where I went off track and have come up with a plan to combat that. Sometimes we just need a reminder you know. So anyway, I'm back to journaling, back to paying attention to what's going into my mouth and back to loosing weight.
I consider it a crash diet too and I am not going to get caught up in that cycle. I had WLS to live a normal life, not to go on a crash diet every couple of months.

it was VERY helpful for me. i was able to relearn my body's signals and regain a sense of control as well as renew my confidence in my ability to control my hunger and intake. i am glad i tried it. it taught me a lot about my body.
