VSG Maintenance Group
Phew!
Now THIS is more my speed.....jeez the main VSG board is blazing fast and who can keep up! Years ago it was like this board....just goes to show you how well this surgery is working for people. Anywho....I just wanted to share my recent epiphany. I have never bothered to count calories, always thought "How tedious and no way"but I have been doing it over the last month and it is working very well. Keeping a food journal. So question.....I notice when I eat bread, even though I have stayed within my allotted calories for the day....I don't lose. Anyone else get this with bread?

Bread is my nemesis. I love it and hate what it does to my thighs. Yes, I too notice that eating bread or any other carb tends to slow weight loss for me. I always go back to journaling when I think I am in trouble and might need a swift kick in the pants. Nothing works better for me than seeing it all spelled out on the page.
All I know is that I just stay away from it except for occasional use of a couple of low carb flat breads. And yes i feel like if I ate my whole daily 1200 maintenance calories in bread I would probably gain weight. Some of us theorize that some of us are just much more carb sensitive. Who knows. It may be that if you eat bread you are getting less protein and that somehow factors in. I dunno. I suspect there is a lot more that science doesn't understand. Some ethnic groups like native americans didn't have bread and carbs in their diets until the last 150 years or so and are paying a huge price with diabetes and such. But other ethnic groups have a longer history with grain based diets. Regardless, if it feels like bread is a killer for you, then it probably is and you should watch it. It is for me and so I cool it. Diane
Calories are not the end all, be all. The type of calories you consume also effect your hormones, which plays a huge role in WHAT your body does with the calories. Carbs raise your insulin levels which directs your body to store calories and increase your hunger. Bread is high in carbs. Hope that all makes sense?

Yes...I agree, the main board is like a fast amusement ride!!! The minute I post, my post is already at the bottom of the page! And it's tough to keep up with what others post. I wonder how many pages are generated per day? I wonder which WLS type has the most posts? Is the lapband, Ds and RNY boards as fast and furious???
About bread. I'm glad I have an allergy to it.....but before I was diagnosed (one year ago) I had a scary bread problem, I didn't know it was the thing that was causing my chronic rhinitis, migraines from hell and rashes......glad it's over, and I'm glad I am allergic to wheat because I honestly don't know how much will power I would have if I could eat it......I know it would be my nemesis as well.

I truly stay away from bread. I truly might have a bite of the flat rounds every super blue moon..but that is all. I just know that stuff is evil business for me. I really don't want it the further I am away from it. I use to absolutely nearly kill myself eating carbs like that...bread,rice,potatoes..and the list goes on. The more I ate it the more I wanted it...just a vicious cycle for me.
