...to get off the sugar.  Been fighting these 20 pounds for a good nine months now, and it is all the sugar and junk carbs I got back into when I was sick about a year and a half ago.  Wish me luck, y'all!

Dorothy, I hear you.

sugar is not my friend even though I am not trying to lose any weight. when I eat more than a very small amount (and on a full stomach, those two things seem "OK")  I feel bad: tired, yucky, and then I crave more.

also I crave very salty stuff which, once eaten, make me really want more sugar.

I am OK with fruit, complex carbs, and even some simple carbs, but eating pretty much sugar (cake, cookies, donuts) is just not something that is me taking care of myself.

I find looking at it like this - how can I CARE FOR  MYSELF rather than how can I restrict what I eat - to be helpful. I even typed "bad" carbs and then I replaced it with simple.

the truth is, I don't even really want that stuff - I would always choose a perfectly ripe piece of fruit over a heavy, makes me so thirsty donut - if only that fruit was in front of me and I was paying attention to what I really want.

big hugs to you Dorothy - it isn't always easy but we can do better.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I'm with you sweetie!  My travels take me to too many places with too much yummy food, and I'm paying the price.

Bottomline, I cannot eat sugary carbs or the empty one and not gain.  And, it's like crack....the more I have the more I want.

I started a protein shake/lean protein plan this week, and I've shed six pounds in two days.  It's the only way I can wean myself off WANTING carby food.

I've always tracked my food on myfitnesspal.com, and as I feel satisfied with what I've been eating.  It's just a matter of doing it.  The first day was not fun as I had a massive headache.

I have no excuse for not being to goal yet other than a whole lot of fond memories of junk food.  Sigh!!

We know the (non) secret to success, and WE CAN DO IT!!!

I have the same addictions to sugar! Once I start, it's hard to get off. I've found it takes me 3 days of low carbing for the cravings to settle down. During those 3 days I don't count calories, I just eat as much as I want of the "right" foods to get me through it, then I go back to focusing on the stuff I should.

Good luck!

I am with you Dorothy 100%. I just went through a weird hormonal month where I had PMS for 2.5 weeks.  Talk about craving torture.  I am at my highest weight since hitting goal, 106.4 this morning and I am going off all carbs starting today.  I expect the first three days to be hard, then it all comes together.  Good luck to both of us.  I know it can be done, it's just not much fun.

I have to stay away from that stuff completely because once I start I am out of control. I keep myself safe from that stuff by always having food ready to go. If I start to get urges, I just stuff myself with good food. I also do "methadone" foods, like sugar free dark chocolate or choco protein shakes or crunchy sprouted almonds or something that gives me the feeling of eating something decadent, but without the damage. Hugs... you can do this!

I started the 5 Day Pouch Test today after relizing how many carbs I had allowed back into my diet. Trying to kill the carb before it kills me. ;)

Just put this on another post. Very enlightening about the carb addiction.

just saw a tv item that  sugar is really worse than fat in weight control and I tend to agree. I eat a fair amount of healthy fats in maintenance but virtually no sugar. As a recovering sugar junky this is just the way it has to be for me or it will be all over but the elastic pants!   The good news is that if you can go a few days or a week without the stuff it gets so much easier. Try upping your protein in the meantime.  diane
