Vegetables and Fruits

Yes, that makes perfect sense.  I sort of forgot that most people are getting extra carbs with the breading and thickening, and foods made by restaurants, plus packaged foods.  I very much get what you mean now.  I was thinking you were getting next to zero carbs, eating straight meat like I would if I ate straight meat.  I cook everything from scratch, wheat free.

Because  I make 99% of my food from scratch( wheat allergy) I don't get many extra carbs with my meat.    Wheat is hidden in everything, so I have to cook my own food, I really can't trust anyone else to.  People don't get the whole cross contamination/hidden wheat thing.   So, if I were to eat straight meat, I would be getting next to zero carbs.

I was thinking you must have been in deep ketosis during the weight loss phase!

i did eat limited fruit during weight loss phase but maybe 10 grapes or a small handfull of blueberries or the rare clemintine. the grapes were great to satisfy a sweet tooth and i only ate maybe 30 calories worth. dietician approved this. definately no bananas. maybe a slice or two of apple but not a whole one. Its all a matter of quantity.   Diane

I ate the same things during weight loss as maintenance... I love fruit, and wouldn't give it up.

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

I eat a lot of vegetables.  I probably eat 1.5 - 2 cups a day.  Often a veggie and dip snack or brocoli or asparagus with supper (1/2 cup), no 2 spears for me!  Unfortunately, I don't like fruit so that is a rare occurence for me.  Oh, and potatoes several nights a week, but try to keep it to one scoop.

I'm not much of a fruit eater--never have been, but I am trying to incorporate raw veggies as a snack. Last night for a snack I had a bunch of celery dipped in dressing. I figure it helps me avoid eating bad carbs at night and gets in some veggies. At dinner, I only have room for 2 bites of veggies too, so it's really the only way I can get in a decent amount...

I don't eat much fruit at all, except for berries. I don't really like raw veggies very much but I love lightly cooked veggies and my husband makes sure I eat at least some veggies every day. The way he does this is by being very sneaky with them. He makes amazing veggie and turkey chili for me, and he makes mashed cauliflower with caramelized garlic and onions and dill with shredded chicken breast that is out of this world. I could eat that all day long. He'll hide spinach in my meatballs sauce or make kabobs with red bell peppers and onions and pineapple. Sometimes he makes roasted red pepper humus and serves it with thinly sliced cucumbers. He knows that I love garlic, so he makes this great dish with eggplant, tomatoes, onions, garlic and some spices marinated and cooked down. He serves that on top of my meat. He also comes up with many different soups, both hot and cold full of veggies and Greek yogurt and chicken breast blended together with spices. So I eat a lot of veggies, but they are hidden.

Does it count if I buy the fruits and veggies?  I have a problem of still buying like a preop.

I actually do a lot better on veggies than I do fruits.  It varies, but sadly I'd say I get at most 2 servings of veggies a day on average.  Also, I think it hurts my stomach.  As much as I love salads and asparagus, etc., it gives me gas pains or something.

I eat a good amount of veggies as I eat a lot of either chicken or tuna salad, and I use veggies to bulk up the salad so it's not just meat. So I use finely shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, diced peppers, diced celery, diced cucumbers, shredded carrots and cilantro mixed in. Every tuna/chicken salad I make has most of these veggies in it.

I also grind the chicken or tuna in the food processor to it makes it so that I can fit more of the dense protein in.. it's easier to fit more if it's well processed and moistened with greek yogurt. I can eat about 3/4 of a cup of tuna or chicken salad in a sitting but I ONLY eat 1/2 cup to avoid stuffing my sleeve.  My salads are about 1/2 meat and half veggies.
