Tornado!
I work for the county public health department. Yesterday afternoon a couple of tornados his Lenox, IA which is the next town north of where I live. We have been preparing for such a disaster for several years so we headed to the office for supplies, water and ice and headed there. What a mess! Not as bad as Alabama and no injuries, but it sure is a mess. I got plenty of exercise walking around taking water to workers and checking on the elderly that we know live alone (our agency also does home health services, so we serve the Lenox area).
I did partake in some summer sausage, cheese and a small bag of Fritos after we were done. People had brought in a lot of food to feed the volunteers. Didn't get home until about 10:30 last night. It would have been a longer night, but another storm blew in so they called everyone back in for the night.
We won't go up today. They have enough volunteers to help today and are asking others to stay away. If there were injured people, we would go, but no need today.
This has sure been a terrible spring for tornadic weather in our country.

Thankfully those people in need have you to help and many other volunteers. There is no place quite like the midwest for that kind of help. Having lived in tornado ally for 50 years I remember the sirens and the green sky well. Oddly in all that time I never saw one but they were very near many times. You may rememer the huge tornado that trashed Omaha in 1975. Indeed its been such a terrible year for these and other dangerous weather. Oddly, a few months after we moved to coastal california some years ago there was a tornado near here! And lightning and thunder are rare here. Phew! Be glad you are slim and able to help others when they need it. Diane
I just got my internet restored a few days ago, following the tornado that passed through here.
There were some terrible tragedies just a couple of miles up the road from me, but downed trees and power lines and cable was the worst that I had at my house. Have a few shingles missing from the roof, and lost a freezer full of food, because the generator we had would not keep both freezers, the refrigerator cold enough. Electricity was out here for a week, cable and internet out for almost 2 weeks.
We were fortunate. So many around here had it so much worse.

Glad you are all ok and not much damage, Carol. So many others had extremely worse experience than Lenox did. They said there were 2 tornados that hit the town. One an F0 and the other and F1, so the least damaging when it comes to tornadoes.
You folks in the southern states have been hit hard. I would go crazy without my internet for 2 weeks. lol Guess that means I'm too addicted. But it's better than eating I guess.

yes, I think that internet is one of the addictions that took the place of my eating. The others are internet shopping, and buying smaller size clothes from goodwill. I thought I would be in a size 10/12 from now on, so I stocked up on those sizes, some of which were not from goodwill. Now I find that all the 12s and some of the 10s are too big on me. I have had to go back again and get size 8s, and go from medium to small in some things.
Hey, I'm not complaining, I 'm just sayin that if I have to be addicted to something, this addiction is much more fun than the eating, and the results thereof. And.... I have never gone in debt shopping at goodwill and the other resale shops that we have here.
And, BTW Wanda,
what kind of MOPAR do ya have? My husband was a Mopar fanatic for years. I loved our Pink 'Cuda. Could not see your profile as it is private, I think.

We have a wide variety of Mopars - all in various stages of restoration. Charger, Duster, Fury, Power Wagon, pickup. I'm thinking he will never finish any of them. We do have a 70 Dart Swinger that we purchased already restored. We had one just like it when we got married, so we just had to have this one! We had a Panther Pink Cuda and sold it. It was still in the process of being restored too. I really didn't want to sell it, but he did anyway. Our son has a 69 Road Runner. Otherwise, we drive a Dodge Ram and a Dodge Nitro and have a Caravan too.
BTW I think I'm addicted to shopping too. Mostly on-line because we live 2 hours from the city. I like Goodwill too. Try to get there when I can. But Kohl's and Dress Barn are my biggest weakness. What I save in food, I spend in clothes. Yes, it's fun! As long as I can pay cash, I'm good. (I pay off the credit card each month - I never carry a balance because I detest paying interest)

Our :uda was Panther pink also. Loved that car, but we sold it. Will upload some pics one of these days.
We had a purple or should I say "Plum crazy" Dodge Demon that he restored, and he sold it several years ago. We have had a couple of Furys, and a Duster. We have a Plymouth Prowler now, Woodward edition. And my condition to him on buying that was he had to get rid of all the other old cars except one or two. He chose to keep his '62 Olds Starfire, and a Chevrolet Monte Carlo that he drag raced. He finished restoring the Olds just before he died. He also finished the Monte Carlo. He was always working on one or another for the entire 40 years we were together.
I totally agree about the credit card interest too. I pay off the balance monthly and my biggest weakness is computers online. I have too many computers, but I will say they are less expensive than working on old cars.
The Prowler, Olds, and Monte Carlo are in the garage, and did not sustain any damage from the tornado. Thank Goodness for that as I do not have the perseverance to find parts for old cars and get them worked on. Also do not have the money.
I'm thankful for folks like you that help with the aftermath of the storms. They really can cause alot of chaos.
