Thanks for the hug Jackie... This is the only time in my life I have felt.. Well.. Stupid I guess... I have always, especially when I was heavy, been proud of my intellect, and now I am embarrassed to tell people about all my schooling and have to admit that I cannot find a job... I feel less than..

So sorry Hon!  That sux big time.  Do you think that it's because it's a "man's world"?  As much as we hate to think it, there is still discrimination against us women and my guess is that criminal justice is worse than others...macho men, ya know.

In what particular area of criminal justice are you looking?  I'm trying to think of other occupations where you could look for a job that would have contacts in that field that would help you at some point in time.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Oh, it surely is a mans field overall. Most police type jobs require a level of physical fitness I still haven't attained... So even just in that regard. Most of the justice agencies I have interacted with do have men in charge. I have pursued a number of social service jobs as well, since my BS was psych and sociology heavy... And those agencies seem to have more women. I am focusing directly on probation, parole, and alternatives to incarceration programs now.. But I have applied for forensic jobs, child services jobs, and civilian police jobs.. I am open to just about anything legal at this point.. Just to have my internal gauge of worth back..

Sorry to hear this. Have you thought of Volunteering somewhere? Anywhere? Hubby looked for 4 years and he has his BA and just now got a job making WAY less than we need. I do volunteer here and there and find that it opens a lot of jobs to employment through the place it's self and also people who know ppl. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice! I have considered volunteering, and have applied for a number of unpaid internships... Nothing has panned out for me except a single internship at the Philly warrants department. They offered me an unpaid internship, but since it is 3 hrs from home and they wanted me on the 3rd shift I couldn't accept... Sigh..

I feel your pain! I lost my job Nov. of 2008. It has been very hard. Don't hesitate to apply for food stamps and other kinds of help in that area to get through. I am a graphic designer with over 11 years of experience. I have only been able to find contract work which is not steady or reliable. I have cut expenses to the bone and done without plenty. I have faith though that I will pull through this and rebuild. Hey, at least I am (and you too) healthier and more mobile which has value on it's own.

That being said if you could write a proposal for contract work and present it to a company you want to work for...make sure you have them sign a non-compete/disclosure document if you have an innovative idea for them.

Best of luck and remember...you are not your job! You are a unique and valued person regardless of your employment status.

Gosh this must be discouraging. And if you have been out of the workforce for awhile that makes it even harder. You might try some employment agencies and temp work just to feel better doing something. Not much advice to offer but to keep at it and consider applying for some totally off the wall jobs that you might not consider yourself qualified for or very different that you might ordinarily consider. It can be easy to get in a rut of the same thing. Anybody out there have resume and networking hints?    Diane

I really think that being a sahm before going back to school is what is killing me now. But with my hubby having to move so often, school seemed like the smartest choice at the time. I have passed my resume along to a few people or pointers, and just a few more peopl yesterday. Eventually I am going to have the best resume ever, lol. I have applied for some random jobs, from personal assistant to film production assistant.. Ha ha.. I will do anything! Lol

Have you had people look at your resume's applications and gotten pointers.  So what kind of job did the dropout get.  Some jobs you might have to "dumb down" your resume especially if it's not in your field.

HUGS to you!!

I have a friend who is a professional headhunter tweaking the resume again right now... My cousin got a job in a daycare. I have applied to a similar job, and even haveexperience as a substitute teacher and nanny.. But no call back.. I thought about dumbing down my stuff, but was (correctly) warned I could get fired if they found out I was lying.. Thanks Shell!
