I think I have transfered my food addiction to a clothes buying addiction!  I have always been a shopper  (but I am a discount shopper!) but it was usually things for the house, my kids...never clothes for me because I hated to try them on before.  Now...I could go shopping for clothes everyday IF I had the time..and money!  I am changing jobs July 1st and will be going on my first ever business trip next week for the new company.  So I went shopping with a friend yesterday to find clothes to wear.....I really only have jeans..very casual clothes.  I had the best time and realized that I have transfered my addiction of food to this.  I guess it is ok for now since this is so new to me (shopping for me) but it will need to stop soon or I might be shopping for a new husband!

Anyone else do this..a new addicton?  Perhaps it is just something on my personality that needs to become obsessed with something!

Have a great day...and  a great Mother's day to all you Mom's out there!

I know exactly what you mean. I used to be a person that had a few things that I loved to wear, and that was it.. Yesterday when I organized my bedroom I found out I have 116 dresses and 28 pairs of jeans.. And literally hundreds of underwear. I told my hubby we have to stop cold turkey buying me clothes. It is out of control.. But thrift store and clearance shopping is what I do when I am bored.. And since my hubby works a lot, and I can't find a job... Well, am bored a LOT.. Gonna work on finding other things to do with my time, because we want to save up to move out of base housing..

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

Boy can I relate!  I am loving shopping now and everything looks good when I put it on.  I have discovered some wonderful second hand stores that sell designer brands and I am loving spending $7 for a pair of Citizen of Humanity jeans.  I will have to show you some of my favorite places in Menlo Park.  You can't do too much damage shopping this way.

I don't think I am addicted to clothes buying -- I KNOW I AM! It amazes me to be able to wear something because I like it and like the way it looks on me rather than, "Buy it because it fits and doesn't look too hideous." That thrill is totally addictive, and I've got it bad!
That being said, I am a cheap (hubby says thrifty) bit*h and confine my shopping to thrift and consignment stores or major clearance sales. My closets are bursting and I have "Frequent donater" discount status at several local thrifts. I've had some unbelievable finds which add to the fun.

Cheaper and healthier than food, alcohol, gambling, drugs, or other addictions. Plus I have to stay active and exercise to maintain my size 8-10 physique!

BTW, this phenomenon is known as 'transfer addiction.' I'm still addicted to food and always will be; for now my new clothing addiction keeps the ugly one in remission.

Life is good!

Patty, I spent all kinds of money on clothes (and makeup and shoes) so be careful, it can be a real addiction.

and also fun, for awhile.  wheee for the new clothes, where did you shop?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I did alot of damage at Marshalls...they have great name brand shoes and clothes.  I also went to JC Penney's and Kohl's.  I am a discount shopper so I like to get things on sale.  This shopping has been fun!..and so far my husband has not complained!

I live in the middle of nowhere - lots of driving if I really want to shop - so I shop online a lot. when you know what size you are (measure!) then you can google women's pants size __ and clearance or sale. I have found good deals that way!

Well you are entitled to a little endulgence. Think of all the frumpy stuff you had to wear for years because not much was available. And a new job with travel mandates decent stuff. So get a few good things.

Gotta admit I am not much of a shopper as I still hate the bad lighting and mirrors that show my sags in the dressing room. But I do like looking at those small and medium and single digit sizes. Used to cut the size tags out of my old stuff because I couldn't face it.    Maybe I will get a T shirt that says "THIS IS A SIZE SMALL"  .   Diane

I confess, I am addicted to shopping... I love the way I look in my clothes, hopefully once I accumulate an entire wardrobe I only have to add a piece here and there.
