Thank you Diane. My arms are just as bad as my legs, but subbing a meal with a protein drink sounds doable. It will have to be dinner though. My midday meal is usually the largest. I tried skipping dinner altogether but then I wake up very hungry!

Please don't skip dinner as you will just snack later. And by upping the protein you sort of automatically lower carbs and low carb might be what you need. I still keep them quite low to maintain. But I save up one evening treat which is a glass of warm skim milk with which i take my supplements. they go down easier. sometimes it has protein powder in it. but i live in a cool climate where a warm drink is fine any evening. GL. Diane

Kettlebells are a very vigorous exercise that uses pretty much every muscle in your body particularly your legs and core and back. I'd be very surprised if someone with exercise limitations could use them safely.

Although I do not have MS, I was in a wheelchair when I started my journey. I started doing physical therapy in the pool. They have a special chair that lowers you down into the water and when you are ready, you float back on it and it lifts you up. I still do nearly all of my exercise in the water to avoid injury. Even when I couldn't stand I watched the TV show Shimmy and belly danced in my chair. You have a lot more limitations than I did and I think you have done fantastic.

I still have not reached my goal and want to lose more so my nutritionist recommended 5 mini-meals a day that are 150 calories and no more than 15 carbs each. The one lean and green meal of 300 calories. Eat every 2-4 hours and drink plenty of water in between. It's like Medifast but not having to buy their food. You can use your own food. I normally make one of those mini-meals a protein shake because I still like to get 65-90g of protein a day. The first 2 weeks I lost 10 pounds after plateauing for 4 months and it started the scale moving down again. Eating that often keeps you from getting too hungry.

Regardless, you have done amazingly well!
PS. I just turned 60

I can only WISH I could find a pool with a chair for me. Living in Greece has its ups but it has a lot of downs as well and disability-friendly pools is not widely offered here.  On the other hand, we have the sea, which is perfect for me. I swim OK and I enjoy our vacations on the beach every summer. Now that I think about it, I broke last year's spring-summer stall over vacation!
The frequent mini-meals are a good idea and with a little help from hubby, maybe I will try them. Thanks!

As many people on here know, I NEVER lost my appetite, and when I am doing well I CAN manage to keep my calories below 1000 and even below 800 without feeling like I am starving. But it takes proper planning and the right quality of food, mainly sticking to dense lean proteins for me to be able to manage it.

I'd really like to help you with this and think I can give you some ideas since I have successfully managed this problem myself, but I need a detailed list of what you eat in a day. Alternately if you don't feel comfortable sharing that information, you can look at my profile and see the recipes that I have on there. I bet if you ate nothing but the recipes that I have on my profile, you'd be under your calorie goal daily and you'd lose weight.

I specifically designed the recipes to handle frequent hunger with hunger-busting ingredients that you can eat frequently without going over calories. I call them sleeve buster recipes for a reason. I also posted a list of things you can do to beat hunger that you should probably try, because it will help you get your calories lower.. one of the few cards you can play.

Elina and I have shared lots of strategies with each other on how to get calories down and have a lot of good information to share. So it IS possible to get your calories lower and eat lots of quality food.. let me know if you want to know more.

Hi Amalia!

I know every case of MS is different, I am wondering if you find any kinds of food that makes your symptoms worse or better. I have a friend with Rheumatoid Arthritis and she says her pain and inflammation really increases with some foods.

I also have a friend who has lupus & she has been told to not eat gluten. I have another friend who has some autoimmune disease -  probably lupus - and she eats crap all the time (candy bars, McDonald's) and she feels terrible. looks it, too.

just curious. I am very envious you live in Greece, I'll bet it's so beautiful. are you right in Athens?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Hi multiplepetom. As you said, every case of MS is different. Personally, I don't have any food allergies that I know of, nor do specific foods affect me in any way (except those that make me fat! LOL) I do know people that swear the key is in the diet and it IS true that for the entire first year post-op I was almost symptom-free. Coincidence? Although my diet didn't change, at 1 year and 1 month I was back to taking all the meds I was taking before and I've had 2 relapses since.
We live in southwestern Athens, about 12km from the center. Athens, as a city, is not the most beautiful in the world except for specific spots, such as the Acropolis. Outside of Athens, however, it is wonderful as I was recently reminded when my brother and I took an impromptu trip to Delphi for Mayday. Living in a large, crowded city, we forget sometimes how beautiful nature is. Of course, the best spots in Greece are along the coast and in any one of the 10,000 or so islands where it is summer heaven. Now, you've done it! Got me thinking of summer!! LOL

Amalia - it's hard to see how it could be coincidence and yet the symptoms returned?  I don't know.

summer!  it's too hot here in Summer, I am loving Spring however. but I don't have the Mediterranean to jump into!
