fustration...do I change my goal??
So I know those last few lbs are VERY hard but this is ridiculous! I am fighting for every ounce!! My goal is 155 which I don't think is too low at all...very reasonable! I am not even sure it gets me to a normal BMI. So my question is...do I continue to "fight" for those last 5 lbs or change my goal as my body just doesn't want to give up any more weight?? Any thoughts on this or how to get to the finishing line would be super helpful.... thanks so much!

How tall are you Patty? I know I have been struggling for every ounce now. Losing maybe 2 lbs. a month at this point. Are you still keeping carbs low, protein high and calories in range? How about exercise? Many people adjust their goal range, nothing wrong with that. Are you happy where you are? What's your BMI? It's really up to you if you want to push on. For me, I want a "cushion" so I can have a few lbs. lead way. Keep us posted!
Hi Patty,
I've been in the same boat as you, struggling with the last pounds. What I had to decide was that I wouldn't really do anything differently, even at goal. Protein firs****er, viatmins, exercise etc. So what's the difference except mentally feeling done. My WW Lifetime goal is 155 so I really want to get there so that I can stop paying for meetings. (I go for long term accountability so that I won't have denial if I gain a pound etc).
Last week I spent 3 days in LA on business and ate what I wanted, in small quantities of course. I did things like allow myself an apple (formerly really counting carbs) and even had a bit of dessert two nights. On the last day I ate a chicken salad sandwich in the airport coming home. I didn't do any exercise except walking. When I got home I was the same weight and felt so grateful that I hadn't gained anything, which was my pattern if I ate more carbs etc. I came home and hit the Pilates and hiking hard over the weekend.
I decided that I was done. That the next step of the journey was about self love and self acceptance that I'm down a considerable amount of weight. That at 60 I may never be a size 6 or 8 but I'm happy with the size 10 that I am now and that PS may help even more.
The magic is that I left for LA last Monday morning at 157.4 and woke up this morning at 154.8. I haven't lost this much in a week since the first month post-op, over 14 months ago. Maybe there's something to be said for self love, appreciation and acceptance? I'm clueless but I hope that I'm finally finding a balance that works for me.
Good luck with your decision. For me it was torture to keep coming up short of my goal and feeling like such a failure, so I had to find a new tactic.

Patty, I saw you this weekend and you look beautiful and healthy to me. I can also understand your desire to go to a lower number, maybe that is what will happen and maybe not, you are gorgeous and healthy right now. Having said this, this is what I would do to increase loss at the end of the losing phase, I would keep my calories close to the 800 number, increase my protein closer to 100g. and keep it mostly dense, and lower my carbs as low as possible. I mean under 40, the lower the better. I would also increase the amount of water you are taking in until you feel like a fish. I would do this for about three months, if it still was not happening, I would proudly declare goal and maintain for life. I would know that I did everything I could to go lower but my body wants to stay right where it is so that must be the healthy weight for me. Whatever you do, just know that you are absolutely fabulous right now.
I agree W/ Elina.....but would also add increase activity where you can....exercise has helped in kick startin' stalled weight-loss for me! Not sayin' workout like Jillian Michaels....but just do something active...you enjoy....mine is walking! Good luck....and Elina is right....you look wonderful NOW!
Hi pbj
First, you look great so if this is your weight, its wonderful. But I noticed you surgery was less than a year ago so i would give it one more try to get those few pounds off as you are still in the weight loss window. Do what Elina says - especially the protein increase. thats what worked for me to speed up slow loss. choke down a protein drink or even half one. you may also be adding muscle weight - do you feel like clothes are shrinking even if scale is not dropping? you may be losing fat.
get a fat percentage dunk tank test at Bod pod or a health club or various places. will give interesting info. also a resting metabolic rate test if they have the machine. interesting insight into caloric needs.
so i guess i would fight just a bit more at least until you are a year from surgery and have one year apt with surgeon if you can and see what they say. my surgeon said stop at 137 but i went to 120 and he says fine. if you make the effort and it doesn't happen, then be thankful for how well you have done and make peace with it and go on living a fun and healthy life. You are so fun I know its all gonna be good no matter what! Diane

you are absolutely gorgeous and such a sweetheart. I think you look amazing. Them kettlebells are gonna make the difference, you mark my words lol you are already working on getting more water so try upping the protein like others have said, we have done this whole journey together and we will get to the finish line together too, we're almost there, have faith :o) jeani
Thank youeveryone for the advice..I am going to try for a few more months and see what happens. I have been going to the gym and now just added the kettlebell workout too. (thanks to Jeani). I will do it everyother night. I am so sore from last nights workout. If that doesn't work..I will be happy with my 159.8! Thanks for the enouragement and words of wisdom.
