Return to ravenous hunger - Dealing with it?

Hi, I'm only 6 months out, but i stopped taking my Nexium at 4 months out and spent a couple of months ravenously hungry.  When I started taking it again, the hunger took a back seat.  I take mine in the morning so it curbs my appetite all day.  I don't have reflux, but I have a lot of acid that feels like real physical hunger.

Also, I took advice from this board's wonderful people and upped my protein from 60-70 grams a day to 100+.  It's making a huge difference and the scale has finally started moving again.  I also implemented low carbing.

I hope things get better for you.

I have had on-going hunger issues starting at about 3 days post-op.  So I've been dealing with it for almost 4 yrs now.  In that time I have found that many things can affect my hunger.  For a more detailed listing you can go take a look at my profile.

In short: make sure you are drinking enough non-caffeinated liquids; get enoug sleep-- at least 8 hrs if at all possible; stay away from high-fructose corn syrup; and try probiotics and digestive enzymes.

I also recommend staying away from sugar and other refinded carbs as much as possible.

Blessings,
Rana

Hi Rana!

just wanted to say, nice to see you & good info for the OP.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Thanks Rana.  I think I' doing pretty well on protien, drinking, carbs and sleeping.  But tell me more about the probiotics.  Do you really feel like they are helping you?  How?

Some days I feel like they help a lot, other days I feel like they do nothing for me.  Mostly they seem to help keep me regular, but they do seem to help with craving also esp. if I take them regularly.

This link tells a little more about them:

At 14 months, I'm still taking Protonix 2x a day.  When i tried to go off it, I had acid and more hunger.  My hunger came back at around 10 weeks and has never left.  I eat lower carbs, and lots of dense protein to keep me full.  I try to get in the bulk of my fluids in the morning and afternoon because after dinner (4 oz protein and veggies) I'm not able to fit in more fluids. I do best when I eat at least 80 grms of protein.   The dense protein really saves me from myself.

Lee,

Thanks for your feedback.  What is Protonix?  An acid blocker?  Something else?

Thanks,

Hally

Yes, it's an acid blocker.

The stuff you are using to "fill up" on isn't very filling though. I think it would be better to eat a piece of cheese or a hard-boiled egg. That kind of snack can really "hold" you in a way that raw veggies just can't.

Also, have you upped your exercise or other activity? That can make you hungry.

So can TOM and also we burn about 250 calories more when we ovulate so ovulation is also a time when I feel like I'm on a feeding frenzy.
