post VSG labs/tests
I don't usually post here as I haven't achieved goal yet... I read all the posts as this his is the forum I trust most, so I thought I would ask an urging question here, as you guys are so knowledgeable.
I am about to have my 3-month appointment this next Tuesday. I have been working too much this month and haven't been able to research properly a complete list of lab exams, etc I should ask my PCP to order. She really doesn't get VSG and I have done my surgery in Mexico, so I have to be the one to tell her which are the items to mark. I am also really curious about my Ac1 levels as this was what started the whole journey - a Pre-Diabetes diagnosis back in October which I managed to go to high regular levels in 2 months only by cutting carbs.
Would you guys give me an detailed list? Maybe it could help others.
Not sure this is the right place to ask this - sorry if I am being annoying, let me know.
Thanks!

First, all are welcome here even if not at goal. we are all here to learn.
not sure what labs you would want at 3 months. my surgeon has extensive ones at one year, but none before that unless there is some issue. so i don't know what is customary could you ask your vsg surgeon? my pcp insisted on doing follow up after my surgery but i don't recall she ordered much or any blood work. maybe potassium since preop it was low from bp meds. solved that when i was able to ditch meds.
maybe one of the medical people on here has a better idea, but i don't think i had much. did not have a blood sugar issue though. gl diane

My surgeon pulls a full Chem 20 panel (this is a full metabolic panel with all major organ enzymes) a CBC with a Diff, T3, T4, TSh and some other thyroid panel, B12 and folate, along with Vit D and D3. This was pulled every 3 months for the first year, then every 6 months the following 2 years. I'm approaching 2 yrs post-op, and will have 24 month labs pulled in June. With those results, he will determine if he wants to keep me on the every 6 month check through my 3rd year. Since I'm pregnant, I'm not sure which labs he'll pull this time.
I had to fast for a minimum of 8 hours before labs were pulled for accurate cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

hey girls, just wanted to come back here and thank you - my annual exam went terribly well because of you! I printed your responses and gave it to my doctor - she really appreciated it. so much that she even kept it, something she never does! hehe.
I could also tell she was overwhelmingly impressed by my progress and how well I look and how I am putting my life back on track again because of the surgery. she was actually the first one to recommend a surgery when my BMI was 38, at a time last fall when I didn't even think this was a possibility in my case of not being morbidly obese. as she is not familiar with VSG, she recommended a lap band surgeon and was really against my announcement of going to Mexico to do an unknown surgery.
But this time I could tell she was suddenly very interested in the VSG, which made me happy as I know she will do more research on it and perhaps recommend it to other patients. I think this surgery still has some stigma so the more PCPs become familiar with it and with the few side effects, the better.
