OT: Got Laid Off

Well I got laid off yesterday. My last day is May 10th. I'm sure I'll find another job. I've sent my resumes to tons of places already and have been interviewing around the company as well.

What I'm worried about is my eating when I'm between jobs. It's always healthier during the week with the structure of work. On the weekends, I tend to graze and grabs what's handy instead of cook something good for me.

Not sure what to do about it, just wanted to talk about it.

I've never been laid off BUT weekends are also HARD on me so when I am off and when I do take off I try to structure my time LIKE I'm at work.  Fix everything just like before and stay focused.  It's a hard time but some times it works some days it doesn't

hope you find a better job soon.

start by creating structure in your weekends. good practice for when you are independently wealthy or retired, might as well face it now.  I have the feeling you will do well!!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Sorry to hear about the job.  I have the opposite problem.  I find that I do better on weekends, because they are unstructured.  At work, I'm so structured that my stomach tells me when it's time for my morning and afternoon snacks.  On weekends, I rarely have a snack because I'm busy around the house or outside.

Maybe this would be a good time to focus on exercise.  Or try new healthy recipes that you can freeze single portion sizes for when you do go back to work.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Well phooey on the lay-off but I know your skills and I am sure you will find a job thats better anyway.

You probably grab and graze on weekends because thats your traditional unstructured time where you get to be free. So while job searching you can put some structure into your days that will mimic work for eating purposes. Try to get up and do the same thing for breakfast as a work day might be and eat lunch at the same time etc. Between job searching activities I bet you will get in a lot of triathalon or other training so you can build a daily routine around that.

And I bet your weekends have always been hectic with chores and non job responsibilites so if you have a little more free time then remind yourself you can take the time to cook a proper meal. I tend to want to rush breakfast (ie skip it) as i want to rush out the door and do something. Have to make myself get that greek yogurt or oatmeal with pb2 in it.

Anyway, sorry about the job thing but you may well end up with something you like better and meanwhile get even more buff. I don't suppose this means you can come to the Los Gatos event?

Nope, because I'm going to Lake San Antonio for Wildflower (the Woodstock of Triathlons)! I am not allowed to run but I can swim and bike so I'm going to do the Long course on Sat. and then skip the run and DNF. It will be a great workout and then on Sunday I can cheer on everyone doing the Olympic Course.

Good luck with the job hunt!  As far as grazing when home, I totally hear ya!  I used to be so good at "dieting" when I was at work because my day was so structured.  Now that I'm a say at home mom, eating is a bit of a free-for-all... or at least it was before surgery.  I try really hard to stick to a schedule, but some days are better than others.  Wish I had some magical advice... if I did I'd probably be rich!

I have more problems at work . The co-workers are always eating chips, my boss likes to bake and  bring in pies, cookies,  etc.

I am sure you will do fine because I can't see you letting yourself get out of control. I doubt if you'll be off work long, either.

I hope you find a job you love!

Knowing your attitude and determination, you are going to find a great job soon.  It is smart to think about structuring your "work" day at home in such a way that you are not snacking and grazing all day long.  Maybe you might want to think of a plan that you believe could work for you around this and tell us what it will be.  We can give you some constructive criticism of it and you can feel accountable.  What do you think?  I know that you will have a handle on it, plus you can always increase your exercise to compensate if you need too.

I think having a plan is a good idea. Also, it will help the work search because I need structure for that as well! (I've already lost track of where I've applied and not applied.)
