OMG Close encounter of the third kind with slider food

Ok, your fearless moderator went to easter dinner with friends. We share all holidays with these dear friends and everyone brings something and its always great. They all know about my surgery and are supportive and don't push food on me. And my sleeve is still so restrictive that overdoing has never been a problem.

Maybe it was the glass of wine, i dunno. I ate my usual modest portion of appropriate things including a bit of ham, spinach, salad, a half deviled egg as hors d'oevre and a dab of cherry wine sause for the meat. skipped the bread, potatoes and all that.

Then it happened. The dessert was presented. It was homemade carrot cake and HOMEMADE COCONUT BALLS COVERED WITH CHOCOLATE!!!!!!  These things were bigger than a golf ball but smaller than a tennis ball. Well i am down a couple of pounds and whiney because of treatment to my hands this week  and decided to eat a half of one of these coconut things. OMG it was so good i ate another half and a bite of dh's carrot cake too. The strange thing is that when my sleeve is full, it is FULL and i know i better not take another bite. And I was full from dinner. But these ^*%$%$$%%%$#)&@$!###   coconut balls went down like they were nothing. No impact on sleeve at all. So weird. Delicious and truly scary. I finally picked up the plate and moved them elsewhere. They were singing to me like the sirens of Odysses.

We referred to the maker as the Evil Dessert Queen  (EDQ).

Now I  know nothing bad is going to happen and i am not going to make a habit of eating this stuff. Nagonna doit.  But was truly amazed that i could eat an entire one of these things after a full dinner. Really get the slider concept now.

One guest gave us each a four leafed clover that she had searched out. Hope it gives me a lucky week (wrong holiday i think).

Diane

Yep...EDQ.....good name!!!

I am so impressed that you did not get the slider concept until now, being as you are so far out from surgery.  Sadly, I got the slider concept way way way to early!  Like 2-3 months out.  OH got me through it though...thank God for this forum....

well i guess i did get the slider concept intellectually but this was truly learning from the "gut". Even oatmeal makes me feel stuffed and i can feel full on greek yogurt. why is coconut and chock less filling than gy? its a mystery!!! oh well, gotta stay out of the way of the EDQ. And she isn't fat either (bioytch).   D

A friend of mine, who has been a skinny biotch her whole life happens to be an EDQ as well.  Her cooking and baking skills are legendary!  In fact, she wears an apron that reads "never trust a skinny cook"

Same thing happened to me, Easter dinner with friends.  Everyone knows I had surgery and no one pushes food.  BUT  After eating an appropriate amount of protein (4 Aidells chicken meatballs) and being quite full and satisfied, I sat and dipped into the M&M dish like four times.  Now I haven't had M&Ms since surgery, and frankly they tasted TOO SWEET (there was a time when I would have said there was no such thing as too sweet).  But I ate them anyway, until I finally moved to another part of the room.  WFT???  Like you, Diane, I do not plan to repeat this episode, and was VERY surprised at how many I was able to eat, even feeling full from the meatballs.  Slider food for sure.

And now, a couple hours later the Snarly Monster (stomach acid) is waking up, just a little.  Chocolate is one of the things it doesn't like.  I know better, YIKES bad habits can sneak back in easily!

yeah and on top of all that, my protein count today was horribly low so i am having to drink a protein coco to get some in. guess i learned a lesson. i just had never had more than a bite or two of a dessert and avoided carbs so much that i just didn't realize that this suggary stuff goes down easier than water. go figure.

still thinking of those choc coconut things. glad they are far away. diane

I would definitely blame the alcohol. I find that I can eat more after I drink some even if I was terribly stuffed before I drank. I'm not sure what is going on but it's like it relaxes my stomach and that empties it or something.

hmmmm, good theory. blame it on the booze. I like it. Of course it means i gotta watch the wine now. Dang. Even Dr. C says a couple glasses of wine a week is ok in maintenance. Just not connected with choc coconut balls i guess. D

That is exactly how I gained that 8 lbs over Christmas. Every time I turned around I was faced with these types of things and the sleeve did not help one bit. It was like it was not even there.

I am amazed at how much junk I can eat without a problem, yet get so full from solid protein. I learned a big lesson, since it took 4 months to take it off!

yep, learned a big lesson here. just have to plan ahead and limit those foods. So far i seem to be able to limit it to the holiday event and stop. but thats because these events are not at my house and so i have no leftovers. a blessing. i really had no clue how easily that stuff goes down and am going to have to be super vigilent in the future about not going back to those old habits. thanks for sharing your lesson. it helps us all.  diane
