I had a very strange eating day today.  I think all together I have only consumed about 25-30 g. of protein and it is 6 o'clock already.  What to do?  I know I am not going to hit my usual target of 65 g. but how do I take in at leas another 30 g.  I do not have protein powder in the house, or protein hot chocolate so that is not going to happen.   Here is what I have eaten today so far:

B: one ricotta cheese pancake and strawberries (maybe 5 g. of protein)
S: two packs of seaweed
S: 15 sprouted lemon almonds
L: spinach in flat Turkish bread with garlic spread and pumpkin.  (This is where things went a little wrong)  Notice, no protein
S: home made chicken soup, but there was not much chicken in it.
S; radish, green onion and sour cream salad
Feeling kind of done for the day, but the protein count is bad.  What to do, what to do?  Any good suggestions?

As you can see I have been grazing like a gazelle all day long, I am still at about 900 cals. maximum.

Have a couple ounces of meat to feel you up and call it a day.

Thank you Ms. Shell, I am going to see if I get a little hungry before bed and eat some chicken breast.

If you're not hungry, I wouldn't worry about it. One day of low protein won't hurt you. If you get hungry later, go for something high in protein, like Ms. Shell said. And then just make sure to hit the protein tomorrow...

And I'm sure all the iodine in the seaweed counts for something!!

You are right of course, but somehow the fear of losing hair has me eyeing that chicken breast.

I think the whole hair falling out is most pertinenet when we FIRST have surgery etc.  On average (depending on what site you are on) it says protein requirements anywhere from 45-75.  So I wouldn't worry about it UNLESS you are making a habit of it.

OMG the planning this takes, lol.  Which is why I made the soup last week and now I'm going to see about making the split pea soup someone gave me the recipe for.

You are right.  I find that protein requires me to plan, I can just eat carbs with no planning at all.  Today was a no planning day.  I think what I really need to do, is spend some time tonight planning tomorrows meals and maybe doing some cooking in advance.  I think that's what trips me up the most, the planning and cooking this requires. If I can't think of anything great to cook, maybe tomorrow will be Poki day.   Thanks Frisco.

I am sooo bad about getting all the protein I need because I'm sick of meat. Ugh.

I eat a lot of cottage cheese (every day!), greek yogurt (actually the carbmaster yogurt from kroger), and eggs.

Oh you can also make some tuna fish (I mix mine with cottage cheese for extra protein).

I wouldn't worry about it!  How often did you count protein before surgery? I'm guessing never!  I know for me, I had days pre-op where I ate almost exclusively carbs... and I survived.  Obviously not something to make habit, but if it happens once in a blue moon, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.  Even the healthiest people around have bad days!  Not to mention, you were eating nutritious foods, just not protein... not a big deal in the big picture!
