i know the feeling. can't seem to get it together either. just too much other more fun stuff to do. i do take a martial arts class and try to walk the dogs but mostly can't get it together. there is a regular exercise post here to report in on. might try that. if you find a kick in the arse, send it my way too. Babs,
You know what I finally did and it is working? I telll myself that no matter how busy my day is, no matter what is going on, I HAVE to walk 15 minutes briskly on the treadmill 6 days a week and 3 days a week do a 15 minute resistance band routine. Some days that's all I get in, other days lots more. But in giving myself such a small minimum to do it keeps me in the habit of exercise. I'm big on building habits. It's truly the only thing we can control. I originally was using the 30 minutes cut off, but recent stressors with an illness in my father and lots of traveling on the road made it impossible somedays, but I found no matter what I could still do 15. You might try that.... just to get yourself in the habit of doing it? If you're like me it was feast or famine with food and the same principal with exercise. I had to get away from that.

because you are trying to do stuff that is no fun? too hard?
if you want to do it permanently, you have to choose something you don't mind doing. recently I got an exercise ball and can do a few things on it. (I also got a book and am adding more) BUT this was after giving it a lot of thought - and realizing it was something I could keep doing. and I am starting small.
also started doing 10 minutes of BRISK walking in the house, yes just up & down my living room & hall. and only 4 times a week. EASY but I made it a habit and I play music. now I'm up to 30 minutes and I am even jogging! again, I had given this a lot of thought & wanted something I could do indoors in any weather.
think about what you are really willing to do, then start small and make it a habit. dance! jumping jacks! horseback riding! yoga! swimming, kick boxing, bellying dancing, pole dancing, gardening
the good news is, after awhile you feel better and it's more enjoyable!
don't think of it as a chore you have to do, think of it as finding activities you enjoy and making it easier to do them!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Hi Babs,
Sorry you are struggling with the exercise. And to answer your questions, BECAUSE YOU HATE IT!!! lol
I agree with the above poster start small. I have been walking 4 miles almost daily since my surgery almost 2 years ago. But strolling around this beautiful island, although it is exercise, is not all I need to be doing.
I have wanted to do weights and floor exercises for a long time. I tried zumba at home, I have tried Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred (at home again), and did not stick with any of it.
Now I have reduced my walk a bit, upped the pace a bit, and I am finally doing floor exercises and weights. I started off small, REALLY small, with the committment to increase daily. I am so weak and out of shape, you would laugh to know I started with 5 situps and 4 girlie pushups a day. But I am proud to say I have increased them by 1 a day, along with leg lifts, crunches and my little 5 pound hand weights. I have to start somewhere.
Find something, start small, and only for a few minutes. Plan to increase, daily or weekly, or whatever works for you.
Come and join us on the daily exercise thread. Once you get going, it really is fun, and it is so goooood for our aging bodies my dear. Not saying we are getting old, just sayin'.
Big hugs,
Cindy

Hey Babs, lots of great answers here, hope you can find a solution!!! I so understand wheat you mean about not being perky and firm!!!!
Everyone's answers have motivated me....and I can't do anything for awhile, cept walk....(gallbladder surgery).
However, I like the idea of doing 15 minutes on the tread mill. I have one, it's dusty, but suddenly it's looking shiny and new and I want to dust it off and plug it in.
I've been walking outside, but it's getting to hot (in the 90's), and I was worried about getting exercise after healing. The treadmill is the perfect solution to beating the Texas heat.
