On the defense for the first time since surgery...

Wow... this post couldn't have come at a better time as I am struggling with the same exact issue (except I weigh 10 pounds more than you!).  I lost and maintained my weight fairly effortlessly w/ exercise and was set at around 140.  Then, my body proceeded to drop 10 pounds last fall without me really anything different than I had been doing to maintain.  For the first time in my life, I was within 5 pounds of my goal.  Then, literally in a period of three weeks in Jan, all 10 pounds came back...again without me doing anything at all different!!

I've racked my brain and beat myself up trying to figure out what I did wrong, and have spent the past three months trying to do everything right (that I didn't do before)... extra protein, minimal snacks, extra exercise, etc, but the scale won't budge unless it goes up.

I am currently in the exact same mental state as you re: feeling myself getting fatter and being terrified of having to live my life stressed about my weight every day.

I don't have words of wisdom for you, but do feel your pain and can offer support (or an ear to listen), if you'd like.   I've thought about doing the 5-day pouch test.  Have you done that??  Had any luck?

OK, take a deep breath, hold my hand, and here we go.....
First, we have all been there over and over and over again.  This is not the last time you are going to find yourself here therefore how we learn to deal with this really determines our success or failure long term.  No pressure right.  Second, this can be dealt with.  Really, it is going to be alright in the end.  I promise.  Take another deep breath.  OK, back to basics.
NUMBER ONE RULE: MAKE A PLAN

I am not kidding, stop reading right now, and get a paper and pencil or open another screen or whatever you need to do to take notes.  You are going to make a plan, just for you, and you are going to stick with it until....

Your plan is going to include the number or calories you are going to eat everyday, the protein count, the carb count, the water amount.  You are going to write down just how you are planning to keep yourself accountable, is it going to be written in a brand new shiny notebook, a website, some other way.  Make a choice right now.  Ask yourself about the number of times you are going to eat every day.  Are you going to eat three times a day and no snacks?  Or are you going to allow yourself two snacks and three meals?  How many meals and when will you eat them?  Are you going to have a schedule or are you using some other way to plan them out?  How are you going to measure your food?  Are you using small bowls that only hold about one cup to eat from? Are you using a scale, a measuring cup or what?  Which threads are you going to be accountable on?  The maintenance weight one from Cindy? or Ms. Shell's or what?  I want details.  How are you going to get your water in?  Do you use a particular bottle that you know the measurement of and you need a particular number of them a day to meet your goal?  Do you see where I am going here.  I WANT A DETAILED PLAN in writing and with accountability.  Now drop and give me twenty.  Just kidding there.  :)
This is how you are going to win this battle.  You are going to plan to win it, organize your life around winning it, and report back about how well you are winning it.  You will make corrections as needed until you get to goal.  We are going to cheer you on the whole way home.  This is how you will win this time and the next time and the time after that.  This is for life.  Stay connected, never forget where you started and don't ever get ****y that you "got" this.  I will be there for you and you will need to be there for me when I need it.  Together we are strong.  I believe in you, make it happen.

Elina, I feel like crying!!

Please, please cut and paste this and start a new thread, be sure to title the thread carefully to include everyone that is struggling, in a stall, needing some gudance, whatever, people need to read this.

You have put it down, you are making them put it down, you have said it like it is, you have used your cute little foot to kick them in the butt.

Please share this on a new thread, and ask people to do what you have asked this poster to do ok?  Ask them if they want to put it in writing for you to review.

Some people here struggle and we all try to help, perhaps THIS is what they need.

Big hugs,

Cindy

 AWESOME and THANK YOU!!!!!!

This is exactly what I did to lose the weight in the beginning.  I wrote down everything and was accountable daily for all my food, fluid and exercise.   I will take one day at a time and DO THIS!

You're the best!

Rose I will chime in also...

-  I knew I could lose this weight, and I did.
-  I was positive this time would be different, and it was.
-  I was so sure I would keep it off, and I did... for awhile.
-  I was happily maintaining, and did not give in to Christmas goodies until the day of Christmas.
-  I conciously made the stupid decision to continue to indulge until Jan 3rd, my hubbies Birthday.
-  I then could not get control for months... I would try and fail, try again and fail.
-  So I made the decison to try to stop gaining and maintain for awhile, and I did.
-  Now I am ready to lose the 10 lbs I gained from Christmas and beyond.  I am currently on Day 2 of a 30 Day Challenge, and it is working, I am ready now, I am getting this off.

What did I learn:
-  I can lose the weight
-  I can maintain
-  I can't allow myself to go off for so long
-  I need to pick and choose the times to indulge and make up for it asap
-  I need to remain diligent and accountable
-  My head has not fully changed, even though my body has
-  This is going to be a life long process

Thank you all....from the bottom of my heart.

Elina, wise words...planning now. Thinking/doing/writing it all down.

I love that we have this place to come together - however often - and however - we may need to.

I'm feeling a little better this evening and have eaten cleanly all day. Much better. Logging my food now...

I to worry about regaining the weight. I never want to leave this new "skinny" world that I have found. Instead of beating yourself up, give your self a hand for catching it now instead of 50 to 100lbs from now. Think about the past, in the past we had so much weight to lose that for me it became almost overwhelming, it was so overwhelming that I eventually became tired, gave up and ate myself sick. Now, instead of having 100lbs to lose, you have 5, or 10. You are aware, now do what you need to do before it becomes so high that it is just too much to even think about. I was reading a magazine recently where it said that most women struggle with 10-20lbs of extra weight they want to get rid of. We are no in the "normal" range, we are like most women in America, we want to drop 10 extra pounds. I think that you should be proud of yourself for noticing and nipping it in the bud now.
