I thought before I go bug Dr. C about this, maybe the rest of you already know the answer, how many cups of coffee can we have a day after the sleeve heals?  I have one every morning, but I would rather have 2 or 3.  What are your thoughts?

I think that as long as you're getting in plenty of other fluids, you can have as much as you can tolerate (caffeine-wise!). In fact, I read that "they" now believe that the dehydrating effects of caffeine are overstated, especially for people who habitually drink it. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I have two very large cups of very strong black tea every morning and have since about 3 months out. I've had no ill effects at all...

Thank you Lizanne, that makes sense.  I drink one latte in the morning and caffeinated tea through out the day.  I don't seem to have any problems with it.  I just thought there might me something I am missing.  Your new avatar is beautiful and very classy.  I always like the staircase photos.  Have a great weekend.

I think you would be fine w/ 2 or 3, unless it upsets your tummy.  I've been drinking 2 or 3 big cups/day lately(probably 25-30 total ozs) + at least 1 gallon of water, so I know I'm getting in plenty of fluids.  Coffee supresses my appetite.  I also put a little cold coffee in my chcolate protein shake.

I love my coffee ground w/ chicory.  I brew mine to be about as thick as motor oil.

Current weight: 170 lbs.

Once I reach goal, this cow will be killed & eaten... 2 ounces at a time.

Total includes 56 lbs. lost on 2-month low carb pre-op diet.  Start date 9/13/10.

Thank you for your response.  The coffee doesn't seem to bother my stomach, but I was worried that it might be too acidic for our sleeves.  Doesn't sound like anyone else is worried so maybe we are OK.

I too LOVE my coffee and probably have 2-3 cups a day.. I also drink quite a bit of water close to a 100oz. I does not bother me one bit and I have zero issues with acid. I also, do not take any type of acid reducer.

I have posted and read about coffee drinking for years and I think the answer is, it varies. I have an increase in acid (darn!) but drink 3 to 6 cups a day anyway. I try to cut down and don't do well!

but lots of people drink some or even a lot and have no problems. so see how you feel!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I have never acquired a taste for coffee.  I read somewhere it may stunt my growth...  I guess a  bit late for that eh?

I must have started too early.  This could explain my 5'1" when my father is 6'1" and my mother is 5'5".

I started with half cofffee and half skim milk at 3 weeks post op. now I do 3 cups a  day with half and half. Did that throughout weight loss phase. I gave up all my other vices but had to keep that one.. Since I use the half and half the acid doesn't generally bother me but once in a while it does and i chew a tums. Dr. Cleared me for coffee at 4 weeks, bless him. Diane
