Oreos, Pringles, and Ice Cream, Oh My!

" I keep telling my self that "as long as I'm not gaining it is fine... if I start to gain, I'll just reel things in a bit". This justification is what scares me! "

I don't think it's justification at all. I think that we all have a bit of dieter's mentality in us still even though we're no longer in the active losing phase. That mentality says that we should only eat certain foods and that these other foods are "bad" and, if we eat them, all hell will break loose.

But the reality is: if you don't eat more calories than you burn, you won't gain weight. And, if you eat healthy 80% of the time, you can have some less than healthy choices the rest of the time and not be unhealthy either.

Now, if these foods are triggering you so 2 oreos becomes the whole bag, that's a completely different story. But there is nothing wrong with having 2 oreos or having a few Pringles or eating ice cream once in a while, if that's all it is and it doesn't lead to a binge.

I think we ALL have to learn to be a lot NICER to ourselves and stop telling ourselves we are horrible people who have no self-control every time we eat a cookie. We have to figure out how to eat these kinds of food in moderation, too. Because no one is going to go through the next 50 years never eating a treat. The trick is to learn how to eat these foods in moderation once in a while and not in excess like we did before. It's hard, but it's possible and the first step is to allow ourselves to eat them without excessingly beating ourselves up.
