What's everyone doing for their calcium?

Sorry love you are correct...

My multi vitamins = 500mg and serving is 2 pills @ 250 each
The calcium are 1000 = 3 pills @ 333+ each

I take 1 multi + 1 calcium together (total would be about 583)
1 calcium
then 1 multi + 1 calcium

I take 500 mg of calcium citrate 3x a day. I use Citrical or a store branch version. I get the kind with Vitamin D in it too and, if I can find it, the kind that also has magnesium but still has 500 mg of calcium (there's a Citrical that has 638 gm of calcium and magnesium, but I figure I'm just wasting money with that one).

There is also 100 mg of calcium in my multi but I don't count that. I also don't count what is in my food because the ASMBS says that the 1500 mg recommendation is *in addition to* food.

I track calcium on my food tracker, sparkpeople.  I look to get a minimum of 1500 a day, and usually take 2 BA "lozenges" for 1000, then supplement with BA chewy bites (250 ea) depending on how much I've gotten in my food.  I take one lozenge first thing in the morning, when my tummy is a little acidy, and the rest with meals if I remember, as I've heard it's better to get calcium from food than from supplements, so I figure WITH food is next-best.

seeing whole tablets on colonoscopies

wait, what?

did he say what kind of tablets? calcium specifically or what?  I take a lot of pills and this worries me!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I do think that occasionally pills we take don't dissolve soon enough and end up going whole through our digestive track. But I think that's pretty rare. After all, many of us have had the experience of being low in something, supplementing it and then having the lab value go up. That isn't going to happen if we aren't absorbing our supplements.

Also, there is bowel prep before a colonoscopy that is designed to get our bowels to empty prematurely. So it's quite possible the pills that are occasionally seen would normally have been digested if the body hadn't just taken in 2 gallons of "GoLytely" and been pooping out a storm for close to 24 hours. ;-)
