What's everyone doing for their calcium?
I really like the chocolate chews that I get from Bariatric Advantage. They are only 500 of calcium citrate which is not nearly enough. I don't like that they have sugar alcohol in them.
I also have a liquid that I get from Costco for another 500. That stuff doesn't taste all that great but I get it down and rinse my mouth out with water. Then I get a chewable from Vita Cost that are horribly sweet and I have to really rinse my mouth out .
I am leery of taking tablets because my band surgeon comes to support group frequently and has talked of seeing whole tablets on colonoscopies.(sp?)
So how do you get your calcium? I need a change!

I use the Celebrate calcium plus 500 one chewable twice daily. They're a bit pricey, but I tolerate them, and can easily get away with just having 4 chewables total a day with 2 of the multis from them. I'll pay more for the convenience, and being able to eat them without getting nauseated.
I only need 1000mg per day to be supplemented so this makes it easy for me.

I take the chocolate chews once or twice a day and the other 1 or 2 doses (I take three doses total) are Rainbow Light Mini tabs of Calcium Citrate. I like their products a lot. I use their 50+ mini tab multivitamin as well. I have to add iron because they don't have iron in them but I like that they go down easily.

ALOT and I mean ALOT of research that I found away from WLS on partial and full gastrectomies showed that years after the procedures there was a marked difference in their bones and many suffered from osteoporis or osteopania. Recommendation daily at least 1500 mg. Calicium Citrate is the best as it's easily absorbed then Carbonate.
Overall it's shown that Americans in general need calcium. I believe it has to do with our diets and things leaching stuff from our bones.

I think the dailty recommended is 1000 mg, but for obese it was double that. So I was use to taking more from a stress fracture in my foot. I thnk if you take too much it is just excreted. I try to always take cal carbonate instead of citrate because it is my understanding all the citrate is not absorbed so you are not really getting the dose you think you are. I take 500 mg pill in the am and 1 in the pm. I also take a fiber plus calcium in the afternoon for another 500mg. And don't forget your Vit D - it is just as important - especially if you are over 50 years old.
