great eating out experience
Wow! You really scored at $10 a person. I had Shabu Shabu (loved it) in Osaka on New Years eve a few years ago and it was over $100 a person. One of my son's friends from Cal was home visiting his family there and recommended that we all go there. Japanese food definitely rocks and fits so well with our eating!

It is a lot more expensive for dinner, but for some strange reason, it is very reasonable for lunch. The place was packed with Japanese people, always a good sign. I will be a regular at this place. If you like shabu shabu, you might look around and see if there is a place close to you that also serves reasonably priced lunches.
Sounds delish!!
Fella and I went out for our Lucky 13 Anniversary on Saturday, although the official day is today. We went to this place that is usually 100 a piece for the 7 course dinner (which anymore is pretty hilarious).
I had what was an appetizer, a chef taste sampler, but it was perfect and had room for desert!
A shotglass full of cream of asparagus soup with little brine shrimpy things in there! 2 Petit peroshki's, quarter sized, filled with rock shimp and beef, dipped in bernaise, 1 scallop big as my head! (fine, not big as my head, but bigger than a silver dollar) seared with steamed lobster sliced on top with a lovely sauce.
And flan swimming in banana rum caramel sauce! Mmmmm!!!
We arent often out to eat people, but when we are, we usually dont eat at places like Nikolai's Roof, but it sure was nice!! I really never get hassled about, when we do go out, because I tend to special order to get just what it is I am wanting, which is rarely an on the menu thing.

this sounds great. so nice that your husband looks for things you can enjoy together. Restaurant choices are about the only thing I miss about no longer living in a bigger city. But our area is so bohemian that there are quite a few sushi places and always good seafood.
went to a dinner party last night. I brought the hors d'hoevres so there would be some acceptable stuff. Hummus and a cheese board. Beef stroganoff was the entree so I ate some without the noodles and some veggies. One bite of the very rich choc/coffee cake. Glad I was full on the beef.
For some unknown reason, hubby decided to pick me up in front of everybody and carry me around like a groom would carry a bride! No one has ever done this to me in my entire life. Pretty cute especially since most of these people are in their 60's and none of the men could pick up their wives even though none are obese. My husband is really strong and it made me feel light and was fun. Was wearing my skinny all black outfit. woke up to a half pound gain. oh well.
Maybe when i come to los gatos i can go to that restaurant. love japanese food but hubby hates it.

I love that your husband carried you around. I bet it made you feel dainty next to your husband, he-man. :) I crave moments like that. Glad you had a great time with friends and I think it is really wise to bring something to eat so you at least have one thing that works for you. On Friday our friends invited us over and they had pizza in the menu. I had one tiny (and I mean tiny) slice and raided their refrigerator for other food. Thankfully they are good friends so they are used to my antics and told me to help myself to whatever I wanted. I took out some cold cuts and cheese and life was good again. If you are ever in this area, I hope you would let me know as I would love to have you over and I would invite the other bay area friends to come and meet you in person. The shabu shabu restaurant is actually in Mountain View on Castro St. and I bet your husband would like this one. Most guys love beef.
I thought you had a little Japanese streak in you !!!!
Maybe it's me and Jimbo ?
nah...it's just the food !
