Wanna know one of my "Secrets"

Every once in a while Jimbo comes up with something good....It happened twice before.

Jimbo posted a thread on the main VSG Board:

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg/4362910/Wanna-know-one-of-my-quotsecretsquot-to-losing-300lbs/

Than I posted one.... Than Elina posted one.....

The responses were incredible! There are a lot of new people out there that are soaking up this kind of information presented this way.

I realized this is a great way to get things kinda straightened up in the main VSG forum. There seems to be a lot of "Blind leading the Blind" going on of late.

It would be a great way to keep us connected to the process by sharing what we have learned. We all do it a bit different and have something to share.

I hate to use the DS term..... but this is a way to pay it forward and share or "secrets" There are many valuable members here in maintenance. We can really mix it up hitting on subjects like:

- Eating
- Cooking
- Exercise
- Mental
- Travel
- Clothing/shoes
- Supplements
- Equipment, scales, body bug, dunk tank
- Etc. Etc. Etc.

You get the idea......we all have something to share.

I would offer a few suggestions:

- Post on the Main VSG forum. (Diane...do we X-post on VSGMG?)

- Start the thread with "Wanna know one of my "Secrets" of losing XXlbs. !!!

- And keep in mind it may be helpful to post something that can benefit the majority.

- Lets also try and keep it spread out...... meaning to many of these in one day may be an overload and dilute our messaging.

Let's use this thread to post other thoughts on how we can make it better.

Let the posting begin and let's see how it goes !

Good idea Frisco. I have to admit that I've been a bit turned off by the main board as of late. But It's good to "Pay it Foward" as there were many that I learned from.

Come up with one of your secrets.... I know you got'em....You don't lose that kinda weight without some special JuJu !!!!

If I remember correctly.... You really enjoy your support group..... that would be a great topic to encourage more people to go if they have the opportunity.

Just a suggestion.... I know you got more!

VSG on 05/04/09 with
Heed Iyam bubs.  I am going to keep my little eye on what everyone posts and then post closer to my days off, so I can see what other secrets might need telling, and answer any questions if I can.

Although, *chuckle* nobody wants to talk about our weak spots with me much it seems.  :}

I do not care though, I obviously have enough words to keep myownself entertained!  :}

Man when you said "the blind leading the blind" you weren't kidding.  How did THAT happen?  It's like the majority of those people have no clue what to do.  I feel for them...stabbing in the dark like that.  They could use a few "secrets" I suppose ; )

I agree great idea and I will participate. I am what you call a "lurker" but recently mention via PM that I really need to get over it (whatever it is) and begin posting not only to get advice but also to pay it forward. I rarely visit the VSG board anymore, and without you guys who knows where I would be.

Good to know, you just volunteered yourself.  I needed to chose the next victim, oh I mean expert, and I chose you.  :)  Please make your "secret" post on the main VSG board and chose the next veteran.  I really think this is helping so many people.  Have fun with it.

Yep, this idea is truly inspired - thanks Jimbo for halucinating it up and Frisco and Elina for following up with more. It really helps the main forum avoid the repetitious stuff and gets people the information they want most.

These threads are not automatically x posted on this forum. I don't know how to do that automatically but I assume those of us here can keep an eye on those posts. Looking forward to what comes up next and I am giving some thought to what I will post of a similar nature. If anybody knows how to do this and wants to, please go ahead or tell me how to do it.

We all really do have a lot to share. People often post on the main vsg and ask people to tell their stories and experience. Well, responding to that involves writing a small novel and takes too much time so I direct people to my blog page. Its not as detailed as some but has an entry every couple of months with status and issues. Its also where I explained how I won my insurance appeal and has my letter posted so that I don't have to PM this over and over as I have had many many requests for it.

Not everyone likes to do a personal blog but another way to provide help to the newbies is to do a few paragraphs on your weight loss story and history and post it on your blog page. Then people can see how you did what you did. It can be done without revealing personal information.  I often tell newbies to search around and find other patients of their surgeon and check their blog pages for their stories. I did this when I was a pre op and was fortunate to find MacMadame and Rana and others who wrote in great detail.

Anyway, a truly inspired idea Jimbo, Frisco and Elina. There is so much brilliance in this group that I may have to wear sunglasses as I sit at my computer!  Really looking forward to what comes next.

Diane
