Uh Oh, Doggie needs toning

In three weeks I am taking my dog Chip to shows in Sacramento in hopes of earning points for his championship. So he has to look gorgeous and be in tip top shape. Spent the afternoon with his breeder and we worked on his coat and grooming. But horrors, she thinks he needs to lose about a half pound between now and the show in 3 weeks. He only weighs 17 pounds. So the challenge is on. I have GOT to walk him a couple of miles a day to get that bit of weight off and tone him a bit.

Any Sacramento area sleevers who like dogs can come to the shows april 14-17 at the Cal fairgrounds. Should be a zoo. Chip is a border terrier; a somewhat uncommon but charming breed.

So now I am really motivated to get a$$ in gear.

I would love to come to the dog show but I'll be out of town. Actually out of the country as I will be in China. I love terriers; I have Jack Russels. Darn....I'm sorry I'll miss it.

Ha, Ha....my dog needs some toning too...I've never had to put my dog on a diet. He probably needs to lose about 5lb. He has put on so much muscle over the winter, he's been running at least 12 miles a week and that doesn't include all his walking. At his checkup last year, he weighed 80lb and this morning he weighed 98lb! He is well within a healthy range, still has a nice waist and I can feel his ribs if I press a little, but I like to keep him pretty lean. I like to be able feel his ribs when I run my hand along his side without having to press. I'll have to talk to hubs because he likes to give him an extra scoop of food when they go running, LOL!

Yep, its always the hubby that overfeeds the dog. my DH is a little too generous with the dog treats. When show weight is only 16 pounds or so even a tiny bit is too much . we have instituted new restrictions, but border terriers are to be lean and racy looking for their working purpose which is to run with the horses and hounds on a fox hunt and then go in the fox hole and bolt it out.

What kind of dog do you have?

My surgeon recently said get a dog to feed your leftovers too and walk. Ha, bet he has never had a big vet expense from a dog eating garbage.

He is a Giant Schnauzer. He gets all our leftovers...but at our house, it is stuff like tomato cores and mango peels, LOL! Right now, he is licking an empty cottage cheese container.

Here are some pics of my pup

OKay, you do know there is no such thing as toning, right? Even for dogs.
