Carbs and Maintenance
LOL Frisco, you were about to get a cyber pie-in-the-face for starting up with the "c" word. But you are right that its an important topic for all wls patients in maintenance phase. How many calories and carbs can we eat and still maintain our hard earned weight loss? And unlike the losing phase there isn't any magic formula that if you follow it you are guaranteed to success.
So we each are our own science experiment here but that doesn't mean we can't learn from each other. You are not the only one who thinks exercise is the big factor here. Was told the same by a certain surgeon.
While I hit my surgeon's goal back in September, I lost some more and really have been trying to maintain at current weight since mid December. I still track and I get from 55 to 75 carbsper day. Seems to fall into place pretty easily if I just make sure I get the protein and avoid sugar and white carbs. Sleeve stops me from overdoing on anything else.
Anyway I hope we can share how we are finding our limits and what works and what doesn't. I've pretty well accepted that I will have to be pretty vigilent about what I eat for the rest of my life but for the first time, I am ok with that and feel like I have a fighting channce of doing it.

For me carbs are the MOST important factor in maintenance.
Eat carbs=gain weight
Avoid carbs=maintain weight
I have no problems getting enough protein either way.
The carb issue is a daily struggle for me, it's hard, and I have to be vigilant each day about avoiding them. Like Elina one cookie, for me, means a whole bag. Even fruit can lead to uncontrollable cravings for me.
Because this is a daily struggle for me, I really need the discussion and support on this forum. It's huge help to read the posts from others who are carb-sensitive and how they deal with it. I really hope people do not stop posting about carbs- I don't know why some of the "non carb sensitive" people care, if carbs are not a problem for them, then great, but why be argumentative about it? Maintenance is hard enough without people making me feel like I have to be "quiet" about the fact that carbs for me are evil.

Hey Jen, don't worry, it takes a lot to shut me up. I need the conversation to go there too. It really helps me stay away from the carbs if I am talking about it. So, I will keep talking about it. The people who are not carb sensitive will just have to cheer us on as we do what we need to do to stay in control. Most of them are really great people and want us to succeed, they can be our cheerleaders when we need them. I think they just want us to understand that carbs are not a problem for everybody. Why would we judge someone if eating carbs works for them? That is ludicrous. If it works for you, we will cheer you on in doing what you need to do to stay on top of this maintenance thing.
* Why would we judge someone if eating carbs works for them? That is ludicrous. *
Except the judging DOES happen, it has happened, and it will probably continue to happen as long as people do not come to grips that different is JUST different, not wrong.
This is why folks who are NOT carb sensitive say the same thing - that they do not feel like its okay to say what they do eat because it sets a "bad example," they have been told.
But I *do* agree that everybody needs to speak to what works for THEM and just block the MOFOs that cannot leave you be about it.
Course, that's me - a major supporter of said block button. I get that not everybody supports it like I do.
That's just different, not wrong. :}

I put no moral judgment at all on eating anything. If eating carbs would be the way for me to maintain, guess what, pass the potatoes. I really am willing to change whatever I need to, tweak whatever I have too, and except what I must to keep this girlish figure. I support anybody that wants to do the same, in any way that works for them. It just makes no sense to me to judge someone for being successful at doing exactly what I want to do myself. HOW they do it, is their prerogative. They should do what works. This seems so basic to me, that I just don't get the other side. There is no morality involved here, none at all. I really think they should feel joyful and free to discuss their amazing success. I am a bit jealous of them, but hey, I can deal. :)

Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?
Neither do I, I am just making a point that just that a handful of us do not do it, does not mean it does not happen. Jooo noooo?
Its another reason why I really attempt to be dilligent in saying *this is true for ME, this *may* be true for you or not* And why I say "this is true for me - and if you see yourself ANYWHERE in here, then maybe X would be helpful"
Its also why I really have been fond of stating, since the beginning of my journey that folks might want to argue with my methods, but they are hard pressed to argue with my results. And sometimes they want to, but well - they cannot.
As we have so definitely seen, no matter our intent , what folks hear is definitely filtered through some tender filters sometimes, eggspecially when they have the initial hormonal ugly mood swings, or if they are stalling, etc etc.
But you know, in a perfect world..
Muwahahaha..

Hah !!!!! Gotcha !!!!
Frickin Carb Wars !!!!
Here is my take on Carbs and Maintenance.......
Just like Weight, BMI, Calories, food volume, monthly household budgets...... every other thing we keep track of that has bad implications if you go over the number.
I'm in the early stages of what I figure is going to be an ongoing case study on myself to find how many carbs I can get away with.....
This is the balancing act between types of foods, calories and exercise. Exercise probably being the great equalizer making the sweet spot much bigger and a easier target to hit. Without exercise the target zone seems VERY NARROW.
I think....well at this point we all know that we are all different and our tolerances for different foods can be very different.
From what I can see......Still Fawn, Bosco Girl, usafwife and several others represent the small percentage of us that are "Winners" in the entire eating process and are able to eat pretty freely....not saying they don'****ch or try.....just sayin they found that they hold a weight without much effort.
Yah! I want that !
I think from what I can see..... I'm not one of them...... nor am I on the other end of the spectrum.... I think (jury still out) I am going to be able to be able to eat a "fair" amount of carbs.
My point is ......you gotta find your number (range) and there are many variables.....it's a moving target!!!
