So, I wondering...
well i went to the er about a month ago thinking i had kidney infection with the pain i had in my back in the kidney regeion... loads of tests later and a ct scan they found fluid in my lungs... first time sick since surgery..
I had pneumonia which i have never had before, but suprsingly enough i took the meds they gave me for it and to control the pain and i felt great in acouple of days... Im kind of hoping that its not going to be a recurring thing that gets worse..

I'm no scientist/doctor......but I would say for many of us there is a correlation. If you had any health issues that have "resolved" it will definitely "boost" your immunity system! Take diabetes/pre-diabetes.....for instance....it is a disease that destroys your immunity.....I got sick/infections.....all the time! As a diabetic you must be careful about getting "exposed" to illness (kinda like pregnant women!) And watching for "food" born illnesses etc.
Another thing I know is many of us were "malnourished/deficient" as MO people....vitamin D ...calcium...and 'b" vitamins are often deficient in many WLS people BEFORE surgery. I think we are much more "nutritionally" aware after! I KNOW I did NOT eat a "balanced" diet before (unless you call pizza for breakfast....and INO burger at 1:00 am balanced!) I NEVER took vitamins before surgery....I think this helps too! Exercise also helps "boost" immunity! (many of us are MUCH more active now!!) So for me......these are some of the reasons why I have not even had the "sniffles" since surgery! (knock on wood!) Being "healthy" is just one more "bonus" to WLS! Yay!

I'm with Jimbo. I never took supplements before WLS. I really think they help. I always get a flu shot, so I don't have that problem, and it has been running rampant in our area this year.
My 4year old granddaughter had the stomach "flu" a couple of weeks ago. When we visit there, I sleep in bed with her. She holds my hand as she goes to sleep and has her little darlin' face right up to mine, breathing in my face. She got up and vomited in the night. Surprisingly, I didn't get it. I did have a cold last month, but it wasn't too bad and didn't last long. In fact, I'm thinking it may have been more of an allergy thing than a cold.
I'm a fanatic about hand washing and using hand sanitizer - especially during this time of year. Guess that's from working for public health for 29 years.

Hi Fawn, I hope your little girl will feel better soon - I know how scary that can be! To answer your question, I definitely haven't been as sick as often or severe as when I was SMO. Yes I've had colds and I had the flu last month but the difference is that I didn't have any problems getting over whatever bugs I've picked up.
Good question :)
