Just wanted to share today ...

Some of you know my story, but for those that don't ... I come from a family of mobidly obese people. I've always been the "smallest" one, but I was always overweight or obese minus a few times I succeeded in losing weight, only to gain it back. I finally made the decision to do something about my weight after my father died from morbid obesity related complications (diabetes and heart issues).

My dad passed away 2 years ago tomorrow. I am pretty emotional today. I can remember sitting in the waiting room waiting my turn to go see him in the ICU. Talking to him, not sure if he could hear me or not ... finally telling him that it was ok to go.

I miss him very much, but my dad gave me a precious gift ... to take control of my health before it was too late.

God bless you darlin. My mother's death is what sparked my losing weight. Thank you for this reminder about why I did this, I've been gaining weight and haven't figured out HOW to get back on track. Thanks to your, your post and sharing your dad...I pray this will help you.

I'm glad you got the message. same thing here - my Dad died of heart disase and his first heart attack was at the age of 48.

I approached that age as an MO woman and decided I had to do something.

hugs all around: your Dad heard you, I have no doubt.

It is so hard to lose our parents, especially to insidious diseases like diabetes and heart disease and obesity. My mom died at the age of 60 a few years ago.

This saturday is her birthday.. she would have been 63. She was diabetic and had her first small heart attack in her early 50's, followed by a small stroke a few years later. I miss her every day.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

And yes, I did have a great dad. He spoiled me rotten and made sure I knew I was his little girl.

We will be thinking of you on this aniversary of your father's death. I lost my dad over 20 years ago and I still think of him on that date as well as other times. He was not obese but had high cholesterol and high bp and died from various things but part of it was a serious stroke; not his first. So we know that obesity and high cholesteral increases stroke and other health risks. So losing our dads gave us some important lessons.

Sounds like you loved your dad very much and had a good relationship. what a gift that is and the memories of that. He would be so proud of you for taking charge of your health and doing what you have done.

I am not a "huggy" person but hugs to you.

I lost my dad to a severe stroke 3 yrs ago in feb, it was the hardest thing to tell him it was ok to go...

that was a turning point for me to also make a change and do something about my weight so i did not follow in his foot steps..

so i feel your pain and understand what your going through..

I lost my dad when i was 14 he was 58. It is very hard to deal with. I will not tell you "time heals ALL wounds" I think we just learn to cope with the "scars" that are left. I hope your "scars" heal a bit more every day. Thanks for sharing.
