Cravings!! Men vs Women!!

Still Fawn
on 3/23/11 12:13 am - SIERRA MADRE, CA
Can I kiss you now?  Seriously- I have never gotten the In-N-Out craze.  My hubby practically drools over the thought of going there, and that is all he was pissed about when we found out we weren't moving to Cali... I have had it, and you know what- it was NOT even close to worth the hype. I am with you- although I HAVE had such a burger quite a few times since surgery, lmao.. Only difference is I like cheese stuffen IN my burger too!

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

 MickeyD's is better than In-and-Out.

But my preference is the Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger. I have one once a year when that craving hits.

If the truth be known........

Every time I've been on a "diet" the only food I ever "craved"

Was a Cheeseburger and Fries.......

And I ain't talkin those Janky In-n-Out deals...... That food is crap......Boggles my mind when I see a line at In-N-Out.

I like meat in my burgers.... not those wimpy little dime burgers with parts meat. And those fries!!! come on....if don't eat those within a minute....they turn to powder!

I'm talking gourmet burger....yah know....nice thick 80-20 half pounder or a Kobe beef burger....c'mon....that's a burger !!!! With real cheese....Harvarti.....provolone.....swiss....cheddar...

Haven't had one post-op yet.....but I will..... figure I can eat off it a bunch of times. And nice steak fries re-heat nice !

I know you like the In-N-Out....... Sorry dude....Janky

As  "fast food" burgers go....it is WAAYYY better than any other options!  Haven't seen too many "Kobe" burger drive-thru's!  And why would you take a perfect piece of steak  and grind it into a burger any way?  Heck they could throw in some horse meat and you might not know it!  AND!........  REAL  "Kobe" beef is hard to find HERE....most of it is "American" Kobe ( Waygyu)....not the same!

Dude.......Kobe Beef Drive Thru.....could work !!!!!

Why would you grind up Kobe Beef for the ultimate Hamburger?......Because you can.......

I'm disappointed that you would think that I would not know the difference between Kobe Beef and Kobe "like" Beef........Maybe I wouldn't taste much difference as they are both fine fatty products and I've had them both as well is in Steak form.....

And horse meat.....that's what your eatin at In-Out-Burger......

for me things have changed since surgery, prior to surgery i used to crave potatoes chips, and peanuts, cashews, all things salty.
sure id have the odd cookie or piece of cake but only on occassion not something i did weekly or even monthly.

Since surgery at about a year out i am struggling with this "sweet" tooth that came from no where kind of thing... I made a huge mistake allowing myself to have some and now its something i fight with.. so i do not have cake in my house anymore if i want it i go out to get it..

The salty things dont interest me anymore in fact i have bought two containers of cashews for me since surgery and my husband has eaten them, me not having any for some reason they dont call my name no more..

but I do crave steak and will eat it 4-5 times a week never getting sick of it, but since surgery i have got fussy which steak i will eat and now i only buy rib steak, where as pre surgery and shortly after surgery it was chicken....

OK  Dr. Jimbo, I will participate in this highly scientific exercise for the sake of knowledge. I know you will present the results at your next FAA meeting.

As a flaming feminist since the early 70's, I kind of resist the idea that tendancies can be attributed to men/women instead of just individual differences. Having said that and having survived the 60's and 70's with most of my brain cells intact,  I do think there are some gender differences in food preferences. In my retirement and move to a small town,  I have been to more ladies teas than I care to admit and I'll tell you what, they never serve barbeque, buffalo wings or pork rinds. And if you ever look at magazines that are considered women's magazines, pretty much every other month there is a picture of a rich dessert on the cover.

So yes, I am true to my gender and I am, or was, a craver of chocolate, cookies, sweets and desserts of all types especially ones that were high fat and high carb. (there's that word again). But my worst crack was Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I think my last 20 pounds was composed almost exclusively of them. They were addictive. I can honestly say that I have not eaten a single one since some weeks before surgery. I don't especially crave them but they do sing to me when I walk by them in stores so I just hurry on. Its almost like a reflex than a craving. But I was no stranger to snack foods and no box of Cheezits was safe near me. Cheese-Nips, on the other hand, suck.

But that is all pre vsg. I really don't crave that stuff anymore. But I think eating one peanut butter cup would be like one cigarette after quitting smoking for 16 months. A dangerous thing. Now the only thing I would say approaches a craving is plain  peanut butter and in maintenance phase I eat a blob on a spoon most evenings and its my big treat. Pathetic isn't it. But I am ok with it. I have eaten an occasional chocolate when offered somewhere but it hasn't made me want to motor over to kmart and raid the candy aisle. Once in a while I have an Atkins Endulge caramel nut bar or some TJ's sugar free dark chocolate. And the ever present almonds from costco that I toast in the microwave. Guess I still crave nuts and cheeses but its not that powerful.

I do think the real question is how did this change post vsg? For me its been a huge change not just in capacity to eat but desire to eat or, rather, lack thereof.

Diane

I prefer savory over sweet.  Savory carb things, bread, chips, cheesey stuff, gravy stuff.

I, like MiniMeNow have had an emerging sweet tooth (before I preferred savory also, but that wouldnt stop me from devouring a bowl of sweets, it just wasnt my PREFERENCE) so now I just have one of my peanutbutter cocoa cheese burrito things (naturally more peanut butter, Hershey Dark Cocoa Powder, wrapped in Havarti cheese) as a regular part of my day and that fixes it for me.

I also crave things like kraut and Kimchee and Indian Hot Lime Pickle.  House fried rice was only a vehicle for the crushed hot pepper oil, honestly.  :}
