VSG Maintenance Group
introducing myself
Hi all-
I'm not at maintainence but was wondering since I was almost 2 1/2 years out I would be welcome to post here.
I've really been struggling...I lost 70 lbs but I want to lose about 40-50 more. I am so far off track..and would like to get some ideas on what people are eating etc.
I'm Susan , btw, ...live in Houston and travel a lot for work, so I am constantly eating out.
I'm a member of weigh****chers..but I was hoping for some help here.

Hey Susan! I remember you from R&R.. Not sure if you remember me, but of course you are welcome here. There are a bunch of sleeve gurus here, and I know they would love to help you get to goal.. Hang in there.. Or rather here, lol..
I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!
"People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within." - Ramona L. Anderson

Susan, I would find all that travel to be so stressful. plus, for me traveling means an excuse to eat poor food choices. I'm driving, I can have pringles! I'm in an airport, I can have a giant ass muffin! it's easier at home.
once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.
size 8, life is great
Welcome to our demented little group. Its fun. Everybody with an interest in weight loss is welcome.
Traveling for business must make it extra hard to keep on a program. I suggest you jot down a list of strategies for keeping to a reasonable plan while traveling. Start with making sure you get 70 g protein a day and ditch the carbs. Start journaling your food again. Think about restaurants ahead of time and choose ones you can order just an appetizer as dinner. I did that today - got the chicken satay on the little skewers at a Vietnamese restaurant. No rice for me. Replace one meal a day with a protein drink. you can travel with the powder and shake it up in a bottle of water if you have to. Carry a protein bar so if you are stuck in an airport you have something to eat besides Cinnabon. Most airports have low fat yogurt available. Almonds travel well and are available. While back on the main board Frisco had a post about packets of individual servings of peanut butter and other items.useful for travel.
I have lost all the weight i need to lose and now am on the lifelong adventure of maintenance. I still only get about 1100 or 1200 calories per day. Not much but I guess thats all I can eat and maintain. Still, can get the protein in with lean meats and nuts and skim milk and sometimes protein drink hot coco. Most carbs are fruits and veggies with oatmeal maybe once a week.
No reason you can't get back on track. Traveling and eating in restaurants has its challenges but then you are not home with a kitchen full of food.
Gl and post again. Diane

Hi Susan. I travel a lot for work and for me it takes planning to "get it right" when I'm away from home. Here are some of the things that work for me, which may be too much for some, but hopefully will give you a few tips to help. No matter how I am traveling (plane or car), I always call ahead to the hotel and request a fridge and tell them I need it for medical reasons (which is true, but that way you aren't charged extra). That way I can store all the "good food" I need for snacks etc.
Going to lunch or dinner by myself is usually easy as I just pick a place that I know serves different protein options. When going with others, I usually make suggestions that fit my needs (btw - no one I work with knows I am a VSGer). If they choose something that isn't the easiest, there is usually something I can eat like a grilled chicken dish or salad or something. Oh...and I always bring baggies and my little lunch cooler. Why...because I actually pack snacks and take my cooler to meetings, etc. because the typical things served there are doughnuts, chips, brownies, etc. So I just eat the snacks and other food I brought...if questioned, I just tell them I'm trying to eat healthy (the response is typically...I need to start doing that). By the way, the freezer quart size baggies are great for putting hotel ice machine ice in to keep your food cool.
If I am driving I take a travel cooler and fill it with lots of stuff that I can eat on the road like low-fat cheese, diced chicken breast, cut of veggies, etc. (things you can't just stop off the side of the road at some gas station and get) Then if needed, I may stop by a store when I get to my destination and buy a few things for the fridge to make sure I have a good variety to choose from.
Exercise for me is actually easier on the road as I only have to take care of me. At home, I have to try and get it in between all the family stuff...and a 2 year old really doesn't want to wait for mommy to finish on the treadmill or weight bench.
This was probably way more than you wanted to know, but it works for me.
