In training
Ok, y'all won't hear much from me for a couple of days. I am playing in a fairly big Scrabble Tournament this weekend. Have been in training studying my u-less q words and other esoteric stuff that you have to know. Gotta tell you that playing an online game tonight I scored big points playing the word "bougie"!! Tee Hee, bet that person went and looked that word up.
Anyway, wish me luck. I am playing in the dumb dumb division. There are some extremely highly ranked players showing up for this tournament including someone ranked in the top 10 in the nation so it will be interesting to see how they perform. I will be lucky to win a few games in division three in which I will play mostly other local players that I have played often. Less scary.
Some years ago I played in the National Scrabble Championship Tournament in Reno. Division six, being the lowest. But we had a great time and I did pretty well for a beginner. One of my opponants was Bill Kinsella who wrote Field of Dreams. Ate our way through the Reno Hilton.
So you can see that my sporting activities tend toward complete slugdom which is why I got myself into this vsg situation. But I will see some people who haven't seen me in awhile and thats always fun. Would wear the slinkiest thing I own except its in an old hotel known for its lack of heat. Will be taking appropriate nourishment such as almonds, protein bars, grapes and cubes of cheese. No donuts to make my brain fuzzy.
There is an intersting book called Word Freak and a movie based on it called Word Wars that is a documentary of the goofy world of competative Scrabble. Worth seeing if you like the game.

Looking forward to hearing about your experiences!
I confess I despise Scrabble. I'm one of those who look at the 7 letters, realize I can spell "cat", and then can't see anything else. "There has to be something worth more", I think, and then I get into a loop. "I can spell 'cat'! There has to be something worth more. Cat? No, there has to be something worth more. Cat?" It's all OCD.

Please bring your scrabble board to the party in April... I love the game and will happily play with you! What fun!
