I read this earlier today and wanted to share, because it reminded me a lot of the recent regain hubbub (no, not YOU, bub!)

Mastery is often gained simply by staying on the path.

Sooo..!!

There!

And folks who are going from not logging anything anymore, to logging everything all the time - I wonder if yall were good at intuative eating before, but your crisp "hospital corners" got a little funky with use and familiarity - I wonder if yall might could just benefit from logging until you get your corners down again, and then doing a once a month review?  Maybe you could just have a calendar and put a letter on there when you are being a treat person, and then you can later glance and see that you had alcohol 3 days a weekend for the last 3 weekends, or whatever and make another plan?  Look back to see where you can glean information to do differently the next month?

I was just thinking about yall today and that for the most part, yall really did do the intuative thing pretty well, and *maybe* going back to logging all the time is kind of baby with the bathwater thing?

I mean learning to eat intuatively is a skill you gotta LEARN right?  Just because some thing/things caught up with folks does not mean it was not getting learned, ya know?  Just maybe showed that crisp lines get blurry and need to be straightened up sometimes.

Dr. Gullo has a self test that he suggests folks use once a week to keep check on falling back into old patterns.

Oh here - I googled it.  Love you google!

Give yourself this quiz about once a week. If you're falling back into old patterns and an old foodie belief system, this exercise will make you aware of it. The commandments in this book are designed to help you ace the questions. Every time you ask them, your psyche gets the message about the behaviors and thinking that are becoming a natural part of your new lifestyle.

1. Am I going more than 3 to 4 hours without a healthy snack or meal?

2. Am I failing to plan (i.e., letting supplies of healthy foods run out, going into food situations hungry, failing to prepare for high-risk food situations, and failing to carry my ThinPack when traveling or going out for a busy day)? (See Chapter 4 for more on ThinPacks.)

3. Am I avoiding foods I have a long history of abusing?

4. Am I keeping my moods out of my foods? Am I not eating out of boredom or anger, and am I reminding myself in stressful situations that "this is not about food"?

5. Am I keeping problem foods out of the house or out of sight?

6. Am I avoiding high-risk situations (i.e., reading dessert menus, looking at dessert carts, dining in restaurants with buffet-style and/or family-style service)?

7. Am I maintaining finger control? Avoiding mindless nibbling?

8. Am I eating too much of the "right foods" (such as chicken or fruit) on my plan?

9. Am I watching for the hidden calories that stop weight loss (such as those found in salad dressings, foods made in butter or oil, sauces on food, and side dishes), and failing to ask in restaurants "what does it come with?" and "how's it prepared?"

10. Am I reminding myself that this is not about deprivation but doing what works for a happier, healthier life?

Okay.. back on my head, we have disability explosions and that means work for Branni!  Hooray!

The love folks, stay on the path, fingers on the pulse, no need to reinvent the wheel, just crank the handlebars back so they head in a straight line!  :}

Caio beebeez, and peace out klownz!

Hi Brandi,

I am in the thick of his book and lovin' it.

I do not track my food every day.  Do you know why?  Because I eat almost the same favourite things every single day...  AND I basically know what my calories are.

When I get back to goal, I am going to be more aware of my new calories when I add some things back in... and I am not going to let it get out of hand this time.  I need to plan better, and stick with my plan.  My plan will include all foods, at specified and planned times... not a freakin' free for all for 2 months.  I hope to never do that again.

Where I think I went wrong was allowing myself free rain for so long.  I should have enjoyed a meal or two and some snacks over the holidays, and kept the rest of my plan in place.  I should have not stayed off plan between Christmas and Barry's Birthday, I think that was my BIGGEST mistake, and I won't plan to do that again...

My birthday, anniversary, etc. are one day... no harm no foul, I ate for the Chistmas 'Season', and right through the New Year, until his birthday on the 3rd of January... too long being off... but even then I was only up a few pounds or so... but I was so carb laden that without a lot of effort I could not get back on...

Then I got on, and Barry's Dad died, and I was off again...  cir****tances...

I am now on track, these last 3 Days were much easier than I thougth they would be.  I hope this ease continues.  I am very please with my resutls so far.

I wish us all luck and wise choices, as we work to getting back to a weight we are comfortable with.

Go team,

Cindy

I agree that a holiDAY was not what fatted me up either!   Its keeping up with the Whomevers during the season, or flying (falling?) into a whogivesa**** snit?

I like that Gullo helps me get a "plan" together that makes absolute sense, but for whatever reason, I did not/could not/would not see it before?

But I am now definitely a structure gives safety and a strategy is stronger than willpower gal!  :}

As usual you are brilliant and I will print and post this on my fridge.  I like eating intuitively, but I did let the "hospital corners" go a bit.  It doesn't take much to start regaining.  Just a few hundred calories here and there and ounces turn to pounds over the weeks.  The first three days back on program were easy and the scale rewarded me with a good loss.  I woke up weighing 102.6 today.  However, today was a whole other story.  I was famished all day long.  I mean really hungry.  This had nothing to do with emotions or boredom or lack of self control.  This was real hunger.  I ate way more calories today and would not be at all surprised to see the scale move in the wrong direction.  The things I could control, like eating dense protein and low carb foods, I did all day long.  I don't think this was acid, I think my body just wanted more calories.  I have a feeling, tomorrow I might not be hungry at all.  So when I eat intuitively, I don't sweat days like this, because my experience is that they are eventually evened out by days where I am not hungry.  This works as long as I listen to my body very closely and only eat when I am truly hungry.  I thought I was doing this, but then the average two pound weight gain freaked me out.  Today, it almost didn't matter what my plan was, the hunger was in control and was running full speed, the only thing I could do is steer in the less damaging direction.

Its that Gullo fella! He is the brilliant one!

Your body probably was just roaring at you a bit.

And maybe you were only eating when you were truly hungry, but it does not take MUCH for the tipping point, you know?  And maybe too, maybe the couple of drinks, which like you said were low cal-ish (for alcohol) and low carb, just wonked up your systems and how efficiently it worked.

But maybe weekly or monthly or something to use this test or something like it, just to reevaluate habits to straighten up the corners?

I look at it like I am a science project of one!  Muuwahahahahahahahaha *mad scientist laugh*

:}

We shall see what today looks like, eh mahlove?  Who can know the delights and learnings this day can bring!?  Not me!
