How long to reach goal???
I was very strict during my losing phase and it took me 6.5 months to go from 197 to 110 lbs. I kept loosing until I hit 101 lbs. and am now maintaining easily between 102-105 lbs. I personally don't see the need for RNY. Why would anybody want to malabsorb calories for two years but melabsorb vitamins forever? I just don't get that surgery. The DS makes way more sense to me, but I think only the people with very slow metabolism need it. My surgeon does not see any difference in the weight loss between the VSG and the RNY and believes the RNY will eventually not be done at all.
I got to my original goal at 6.5 months out and to my lowest weight at 10.5 months out.
My surgeon likes us to lose 50% of EW by 3 months out and 80% by 6 months getting to goal in the first year. This is for everyone as a general guideline regardless of starting weight. But then he adjusts based on individual cir****tances and people's personal goals.
Another unit of measure is the OH Post-op Planner too. I found it to be a bit conservative for a lightweight, but it was another data point in monitoring my progress:

I just saw your comment about "needing" the RnY. This is a common misconception -- that RnY will lead to more weight loss because it has malabsorption. But RnY is not a VSG plus malabsorption -- that's a DS.
RnY has different mechanics from VSG and some of those mechanics make it less effective while other make it more. The net result is that most surgeons are seeing similar results from the VSG as from RnY.

My doctor many years ago said he'd get me an RNY all expenses paid, no money out of pocket. I said no way, and I'm glad I did, because I am so grateful I have the VSG. I'm 7 months out, and including my 1 month pre-op loss of 28 lbs, I am down 133 pounds as of today. So in 8 months you might be at goal.
It's really hard to say because people lose at different rates but I'm sure you could get to your goal weight in a reasonable amount of time, if you worked hard at it. I exercise most days in the week and eat strict low carb, and that has helped keep my weight loss steady.
I have to watch my calories as they like to creep up on me, and if it weren't for that I might have lost even more by now. If you hang out on the VSG boards and the RNY boards for a bit and compare experiences, I believe you'll see the different outcomes of the two surgeries.
