Some people think I'm too thin

Anybody run into this issue? The "some people" who think I am too think is my husband who mentioned that a couple of days ago. Plus a couple of others. But the guru Cirangle thinks I am fine and not too thin even though I am 12 lbs below his goal for me. BMI is 20.9. Gotta admit I get a secret thrill from all this as i was always fat from early childhood and no one ever told me in my entire 59 years I was too thin. The "after" picture on my blog page was at about 132 lbs, about 10 more than now.  May try to post a current pic if I can get  my personal photographer (ie hubby) to take one.

Anybody else get any of this feedback? What did you do  about it? I can't stand the thought of gaining more than a pound or two because I am fixated on maintaining this weight loss for a year as a maintenance goal and because supposedly avoiding regain for a year improves chances of long term maintenance. But I think my face looked better with a few more pounds and hate these wrinkles and also want what is best for long term health. I am probably being neurotic and should just fageddaboutdit and count my blessings.

I think a lot of us are in the same boat.  All of my family and close friends say I'm too thin.  Yet total strangers think I'm just fine.  I have learned not to say anything about my weight to them.  If I don't call attention to it, they don't tell me anything.

I have weighed what I weigh since spring of 2009.  My Dr. said the same thing- if you keep it off for a year, you are good to go.  when I went for my 2 year follow up, he said that if I had not regained by then, I was sure to keep it off.

You are doing great.  Don't sweat the comments.  The farther out you get, the more they will get used to the new you.  About the couple of pounds, I feel the same way about my wrinkly body.  I did gain a few pounds over the holidays, and they went where I didn't want them, so I worked them off again.  I have a pound or two to go, but I'm comfortable with myself right now, and those did focus on my face:)

You are just fine.  Do you remember when I went down to 101 lbs and started to freak out a little bit about it?  My husband told me to gain a few pounds, but Dr. C told me to just hold steady and not worry about it.  He thought I would have a slight (very slight bounce back).  I did, have a bounce back, I am now 103-105 lbs.  I like the way I look much better here and this feels more stable.  My guess is that you will do the same thing.  In the next year or so you will probably gain a few pounds and stay there.  This is not the weight gain he is talking about.  He means more than 10% gain.  You are never going to be there.  Your body is still figuring this maintenance thing out.  Just relax and let it happen.  You are not too thin, but my guess is you would probably look better with a few more pounds.  Six months from now, they will reappear and your body will continue to adjust to the fat you have left.  I look very different now than six months ego even though I only gained 2-3 lbs.  I would not change a thing.  As far as being excited about being too thin, I can relate to that too.  Be careful with that, it can lead to bad things.  I am not worried about you however, because you really have your head on straight and are focused on health most of all.  As long as you stay above the 18 BMI, I would not be concerned.

I personally think that BMI and weight are meaningless. Get your body fat percentage tested, and as long as you are not in a too thin range on that marker, then I would tell those people that you are at a healthy body fat percentage regardless of what they might think.

Like Elina had her body fat percentage tested and she was just fine.. not too thin, not too fat. Our eyes and the opinions of others can fool us with different perceptions, so to me using a scientific measure is the way to go.

I also think that there are so many Americans that are overweight or just larger in general that our perceptions are starting to be super-sized.

Some guy at work told me I had lost too much weight. I asked him why he thought that and he said it was because of the hanging skin on my arms. Well, the only way that is going to go away is if I gain 50 pounds or have plastic surgery!

IOW, he's full of it.

People tell me that, Diane and I still weight 169!  And, I'm only 5'2".  In a size 14.  But I think to them, I look thin (compared to what I was).

I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, but I will not TRY to lose more.  If I lose more doing what I'm doing, I'm ok with that.  My surgeon thinks the charts are ridiculous and not realistic.  He thinks his patients should just keep following program and let their bodies decide when it ha**** maintenance. He doesn't set goals for his patients.   I like the way he thinks!   So I may always be considered "obese", but maybe I'll get to 160 and then only be overweight.

That said, I'm switching surgeons.  Only for convenience sake.  When I first started this journey, I was seeing a surgeon in Des Moines and going to have the lapband.  When I finally came to my senses and decided on VSG, I had to switch to the surgeon in Kansas City because the price was right.  Now that I'm a year out,  the Des Moines surgeon has agreed to take me back as her patient. I'll see what she says about a goal. She had set my lapband goal at 170, going on the average weight loss with the band.   I'm switching because their support group meetings are on Saturdays, so I can attend them.  KC's are on Mondays, so I've never been.  I can see the nutritionist and they have an exercise physiologist too that I'll be able to utilize.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

In this case I do think Dr knows best.. if he thinks you are healthy at your weight then I bet you are. People thinking you are too thin is just a statement on how common being overweight in our society really is, don't take it personally- except as a compliment, lmao. No one has ever said that to me yet, but I will happily tell them no I am not if they do...
