"5 day pouch test = the resurgence of binging and purging *for me* - For me, this is like a kneejerk over correction and will drive me straight off the other side of the road (eating too much X and then going on liquids WILL equal me cramming everything I can in my maw at some point very soon)."
I know I'm going to get flack for this but, as far as I'm concerned, the 5-day "pouch test" is just a fad diet wrapped up in a bariatric-friendly sounding name. It's not a healthy way to eat and it doesn't change anything long term.
If it were called the "5-day detox diet", I think it would be a LOT less popular around here and people would see it for what it is.
The fact that some people feel the need to do this on a regular basis and not just once every couple of years (or once a year at most) just reinforces to me that it's not the way to make long-lasting changes in how we eat.

I've never done the 5 day pouch test. When I have detoxed off of carbs, I just go back 100% on program. Protein first and foremost and generally there isn't room for anything else. If there is room, in go the veggies or fruits. I have never counted natural carbs in my diet, instructed by my NUT. We NEED some carbs, so I generally get them in the form of veggies, fruits and dairy.
I also weigh daily. If I don't, I go into denial. Same with logging my food and exercise. Have to do it or I'll sink. Gotta keep my head above water!

I can't make exercise a punishment or my brain rebels and I don't wanna. I can do alot of it by making it habit and having goals (distance, time or preparing for an event) I'm signed up for hike with Leukemia Society's Team In Training program (i've done a bunch of centuries on the bike), but I'm climbing stairs cuz I want the hike to be easier ... there's no way I would randomally go climb stairs at lunch otherwise :-)
I couldn't do the 5 day pouch thing (my brain would rebel and eat a whole pound bag of peanut butter M&Ms) ... but I could talk myself into a protein only decarb that featured lots of protein shakes :-)
I'm learning to feed myself every four hours so I don't awaken the carb monster and its hard cuz it requires planning and its my nature to just tough **** out (and eat later)

Pretty sad, replying to my own post ...
I also can't eat my "exercise calories" ... i've run a marathons and ridden centuries and it took my long time to accept that I'm not normal and that I don't lose weight or (even maintain) if I play the calories in - calories out game (Formulas for calories burned don't work for me, I would have been very successful in caveman times, efficient metabolism and lots of endurance)
