It was a horrible thing to happen.  Praying for the safety of your family and I hope you don't have any problem getting to her.  They may block entrance into the town.  Not sure how that is handled.  Around here, if there is a tornado, the emergency personnel won't let ANYONE into the affected town except emergency personnel.  She may have to come to you on the outskirts of town.

Hello friends, Mu hubby and I drove to Christchurch to get my mum. It was like going to Baghdad!! The devastation is unbelievable to witness first hand.

We had taken water, fuel, gas lights/cookers etc and tools etc which were very welcome by my mum who was safe but in a total state of shock and dissarray. We made her house secure - did a cpl of good deeds for some elderly neighbours and got out of there.

Thanks so much for all you lovely messages! Still a bit numb at the moment. Have lost one friend so far in the PG building but I suspect there will be more as Chch is my hometown.

What seems hard to believe is that we have driven home and it is life as usual ...
