Setting Maintenance Goals

Elina had a recent thread in this group about regain and also two on the vsg forum regarding the hardest lesson pertaining to maintenance.  There was excellent discussion on what it takes to maintain at goal weight and the variations in the approach to this. Mentioned were Dr. Cirangle's remarks that staying at goal for a year significantly  increases one's chances of long term  weight loss success. One idea suggested was setting maintenance goals and celebrating them like weight loss milestones.

So based on all this I decided to set a personal goal of keeping my weight at 125 or less for one year from the date i first hit that, December 12. This is sort of sobering because thats a long ways away and I realized how short a time i have been at this weight. Seems like longer.

Anyway, we all have a goals section on our profile pages but I hadn't done much with it. Explored that feature and entered a goal of being 125 or below on December 12, 2011. Then I noticed you can click on a Share Goals tab. Its was kind of hard to figure out but you can see the goals of your friends and the most common goals and how many have achieved them and the goals your friends have achieved and so forth. I noticed MacMadame has used this feature quite a bit and achieved many goals relating to running and triathalons.

So I encourage everyone to set a goal of maintaining weight for one year from the date goal was reached, post it in the goals section and share it. Be sure to announce here or on the main vsg forum when you reach that goal and offer encouragement to  others that have done the same. And do the same with any other goal regarding  exercise, health or just plain fun stuff. How about it all you maintainers?   Lets do it.

This is a great idea. I already have a goal not to go over 155 - but...it's a little different for me because after summer I'm really going to work on trying to build some muscle (which means there will definitely be an increase in weight). As long as I don't gain tons of fat, I'm good!
