Joy of Motion

Another great effect of vsg and the weight loss is I am truly beginning to experience the Joy of motion. My whole life from early childhood I was a slug. Would sit in a tree and read a book. Hated most sports and physical activity with the exception of skiing that I didn't learn until adulthood. Had given that up due to obesity. Forced myself to go to Curves to prepare for surgery and for awhile afterward to get some required exercise as per surgeons program but for the most part haven't done the amounts of exercise I am supposed to. Managed to lose the weight by following eating rules quite carefully and still do so at a maintenance level.

So against all that background its been a wonderful surprise to have discovered a martial arts form  that is truly fascinating and which is about motion that I truly enjoy. Quite serindipidous as my instructor's wife is an artist in my studio so i have known both for years. Instructor trained for years in Japan and  has written a book on Aikibojitsu and the Structure of Natural Law,  and I went to book signing just to support my friends. Then got to reading it  and decided to sign up for the introductory class. It involves a whole array of physics and philosophy that is elemental to the motions. And its a peaceful martial arts form that is about the power of non resistance. Anyway I find myself wanting to practice these moves and hope to eventually learn one or more of the katas. Don't really care at this point if I earn any belt levels. Just enjoying the beauty and feel of these motions and the thought behind them. Who'd a thunk that a complete butterball like me would do this at the age of 59. The impact of the sleeve on my life is so powerful and far reaching its astounding. Next year I may become an astronaut.

I used to spin around around around around in the front yard to practice being an astronaut!  (not sure why I thought that is what astronauts did to practice, but there you are).

Is not it neat to feel differently in your body?  To inhabit it differently?  I like that a lot.

Maybe I will find that book and read it!  My mind loves to gobble up more and more things!

Astronaut food is nasty though.  just sayin.  blurg.  :}

I am proud on you!

namaste!

Wow!!  That is very cool!  Maybe I will gift that book to fella for his birthday!  That AND spankins!  :}

I am so glad you found a purposeful movement that feeds your soul.  That really makes a difference in the long long long run.

I've always loved being physical but my body always fought me. I used to love wrestling in P.E. and in high school I broke all records in every category of weight lifting (i.e. I weighed 150 and benched 220). I loved loved swimming and have always enjoyed dancing.

I used to do rollerblading and am getting back into it now. I remember one of the funnest things I've done was when I went rollerblading with my guy friend and we had a super soaker water gun fight on rollerblades on the Santa Cruz boardwalk.. wee!

I also was very involved in ballroom dancing. I have always loved being active but I ate so many calories I negated any benefit I had from exercise. I'm so glad I have help with that! Today on my lunch break from school I went rollerblading in the parking lot... fun!

You are so fortunate Sublimate to have learned to appreciate these activities and others from a young age. I never did and just assumed I couldn't. Do you think a 59 year old who is not very coordinated could learn to roller blade? it looks like it would be so fun but i could never really ice skate or roller skate much as a kid. feet hurt.

One of these days we want to see pix of you in a ball gown dancing.

 I aspire to becoming one of those people who just love being in motion naturally.  I too, spent life sedative... partly out of being overprotected and afraid, the other part lazy complacence.  I find it inspiring that you have achieved this love and level of motion.  Rock on.
