Go check your other post again, friend.  And hey you posted that 2 hours ago.  You have to give people time.  Some folks have links right on hand, but some folks actually search for the posts.

Good luck!

I think that the answers that you got on your last post were as good as you're likely to get here. Diane was right about us being a group of old timers that have been on these boards, for in some cases, years.

I can hardly remember what I really needed post surgery - the hospital gave me all the meds I needed and the rest was pretty much liquids!

There is a relatively small number of members on this board and many are lurkers who are maintaining (or trying to) and tend to only reply if they have a strong opinion on something or a relevant experience. We are an awesome bunch and you'll read some incredibly valuable advice about how to go about this journey successfully but that is a job for you to do yourself (ie search the past posts). This board was in some ways created because a lot of the old timers wanted a board to discuss their lives/struggles/advice for the rest of their lives not just in the pre and losing phase.

You'll be fine - I didn't find the surgery too much of a drama but then again everyones journey is different. Good Luck!

Sorry you feel you aren't getting the response you wanted. I didn't go to MX, or travel for surgery, so can't help with that aspect at all. As for being prepared, I didn't need anything post op except for lots of rest. My dr gave me all the meds and even liquid vitamins I needed for the first week, and I didn't stock up on protein or anything like that. Sorry I can't be more help!

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

I never had my surgery is Mexico either, but i did get things to have at home, i got sugar free popsicles, i got sugar free jello, i got sf choc pudding, i got a container of chicken broth for clear fluids,

and i got a few samples of ready to drink protein shakes...

my advice is not to buy too much because you dont eat alot right after surgery and so a pack or two of each goes along way.

I have seen people tell others to gas X strips something comfortable to travel home with, a book to read if your a reader, and you may have to stop to fill a script before leaving...

I also had a heating pad it helped with the gas that is pumped into you during surgery...

I hope i was of some help and i wish you the best for your surgery

Here is the address (below)  for the frequently asked questions for new vsg patients that Sublimate put together. Hope you can find what you need there. There have been many posts and threads on what to take to mexico for surgery. The vsg main forum has expanded so much in the two years that I have been on it that its hard to find things that have appearred. I used to read pretty much every post but now there are dozens and dozens every day and I can't keep up.

My surgery was in the usa but was a 7 hour drive. i took very little. lip gloss and a book and loose clothing to wear home. we stayed overnight in a hotel the night before and the night after i was dismissed. took no valuables - lef****ch and wedding ring with my husband.  took a pillow and blanket for the car. asked for antinausea meds for car ride home. you need to make sure you get pain and anti nausea meds for the trip home but other meds can maybe be filled later. not sure if you need to bring your own meds if you are on other meds now like bp. I had some protein drinks prepackaged and chilled for drive home. not sure if your surgeon will have you drink these or clears and not sure what you can take on an airplane. maybe a protein drink powder you can mix with water. you may need more clothes as your stay may be longer and travel longer. i like a neck inflatable pillow for long flights to nap. have a small supply of protein drinks waiting at home(again don't know what your doc will tell you) so you don't have to go out and shop. Need to have a family member who is able to pick up a prescription or liquid item you need as you won't be able to drive while on pain killers.  as per previous post i heard its useful to take latex gloves but not sure about that.   Since I did not go to mexico thats about as much as i can tell you. hope you find the information you need. could your surgeon's office tell you what you should bring and have at home waiting?   diane

I was in your shoes about three months ago.

For the hospital I took four of my own nightgowns and undies.  Once you can walk around it feels oodles better to be in your own clothes.  I'd throw on theirs over mine.  I also took baby powder and toiletries, my own perfume, my memory foam slippers ... all these little luxuries to feel more me as soon as possible.  The other thing I recommend taking is the book Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies.  It was my bible throughout my WLS process, and also has a list of things to take with you to surgery.  Don't forget your insurance card and photo id.  Other than that, the hospital has everything that you need.  You could technically take nothing with you and still be okay with what they have, to my knowledge.

For the first two weeks postop I lived off of tea and chicken soup broth.  I also added yogurt to make me go to the bathroom.  Those protein shakes were really HARD to get down for quite a while.  Oh, and when I wanted something not hot, I'd drink a lot of Gatorade, the orange or mango kind.

Feel free to ask me any further questions, but this is all that came off the top of my head.

I would take as little as possible. I traveled really light and I still didn't use most of it.

But one thing I did use: Chapstick!!

I wore loose clothing, no undies.  I took an ID and Credit Card which I immediately gave to a friend.  Other than that, chapstick.  I had a Sleeve and wasn't allowed a sip of water or ice chip until after my leak test 24 hours post op.  Those were the longest, thirstiest 24 hours and i was so grateful to have that chapstick.  I had the person bringing me home bring a pillow to hug for the ride home.  I wore the flip flops I showed up in for walking the surgical ward.

Good luck!
