X-post from VSG board: Surgery 2/28 and H. Pylori, etc...

Okay.  I am now wondering if surgery is meant for me.  This may be a long post as I recant my journey.
First of all, last year I had to change my PCP to find one who would support my WLS decision.  That put me off from starting a six month wt history from March to July.  No problem after I changed docs.

Secondly, there was the issue of whether my insurance administrator would cover the VSG even though my insurance, CIGNA did.  I finally got the final word that it is, indeed, completely covered on 2/1/11.  Good for me!

My cardiac clearance led to me having a heart cath when a suspect spot was found during the stress test.  Thankfully, it was only an area obscured by my 42DDD boobs.  (Still wanna keep those though.)

Now, just yesterday, I get a call from my surgeon's office that my H. pylori came back positive.
Granted, my labs were delayed due to not being sure my surgery would be approved.  I did not want any other surgery; so I was looking into other options, such as Mexico.  Also, when the surgeon's office kept telling me that my insurance would not cover VSG despite the fact that the insurance plan advocate said they would, I had begun looking for another surgeon/clinic.  So, I was waiting to see if I even needed to go through the preop testing if I possibly had to change surgeons.  Maybe that was not the brightest thing for me to do, idk.

So now, my surgery is scheduled for the Feb. 28th.  I am afraid that my surgery will have to be postponed due to the positive H. pylori.  I was referred to a GI specialist (or I could go to my PCP) and the earliest appointment available is the Feb. 21st.  Does anyone else foresee my surgery being rescheduled besides me?  This is such a disappointment!

I started my preop diet Feb. 14th.  My diet is as follows:

Breakfast and Lunch:  Protein Shake or Protein Bar

Mid-Morning, Mid-Afternoon, and Evening Snack:  1 small piece of fruit (+4 oz low-fat yogurt if diabetic)

Dinner:  3 oz lean meat
Steamed veggies or salad with FF dressing
6 unsalted crax or 2 slices low-cal bread or 1 small baked potato
1/2 c. fruit or 1 small piece of fruit.

So far, so good.  I only have to do clear liquids the day before surgery.  I have had a severe headache since I started.  Withdrawal of sorts?  LOL!  Unfortunately, in an effort to support my diet change, my DS thought it helpful to bring in 6 boxes of my favorite Girl Scout cookies on Sunday. He said, "I thought maybe you could eat them all today, since you won't be able to after today."  I resisted any of them, but it was with much inner turmoil because I wanted them.

Thanks for anyone *****ad all of this rambling post.  I am mostly afraid my surgery won't happen on the 28th. And especially, after I have been on the diet two weeks.

Any comments about this?

UPDATE!  My PCP called in Rx for H. pylori treatment after she got copy of lab results.  She also will send letter that I am still clear for surgery!   YES!  Thanks for the prayers.  Headed to the drug store, and this time I won't mind.

saw your update and was glad to hear it because i was pretty sure there was an antibiotic to take care of that germ and you would be good to go. I too had a lot of ups and downs in insurance fight, extra preop testing, scheduling confusion, arrangement problems inclucing uncertainty as i was making the 7 hour drive to the hospital city  and a whole host of things that made me wonder if I would ever get this accomplished. but i did and it happend and 15 months later i lost all my weight and am bmi. 21.

So my point is sometimes if you have to fight and push and go through some adversity to get this it makes you more motivated to succeed and you do better with the program and have less of the post op remorse that some folks have. Gotta say i didn't have one minute of post op regrets. not to say it was all easy as the protein shakes gagged me but i knew i would get through it and the end was worthwhile. this will be true for you. two weeks of clears sounds tough but you can do it. you may feel cranky and hungry so just come on OH and vent and gripe. thats what its for. But i promise you about when you get to the mushy stage things will fall into place and in a few more months with some weight gone you will be so glad you did this.

so full speed ahead and don't look back. and toss those cookies and have talk with hubby about importance of not sabbotaging your program, no matter how kindly his intentions are. all the best. Diane

Oh that was my 16 y/o son who did that.  We had a talk about that; now he's the food police.

Thank you for that encouraging response.  I am impatient and ready to shed this excess weight.  It has hung around and embarrassed me and hindered my life for long enough.  I just don't want any delays.  I guess I am closer now than before.  My bags are packed!  LOL.
