Judo........7 years Palo Alto Judo Club

Last year I was at one of my nieces gymnastics meets in another city.....I ran into one of my Judo instructors who was there watching his grand daughter.
Went into total automatic mode from childhood....... Bowed and said "Sensei, how are you". After all these years.....Total respect. Calling him by his name never crossed my mind. After I wondered if kids today get the same training......

One of the profound statements I remember as a 10 year old in Judo..... One of the sensei's once told a group of us kids......"Never use Judo outside of this Dojo or a competition.......unless your getting your ass kicked"

On a side note about weight control..... I wonder, cause of studies I've heard about.....If that was the beginning of my weight problems..... Competition Judo is classed by Belt color and weight divisions. I was yo yo dieting as a child for weight classes before yo yo dieting even was a term.
I have heard it is not good to have weight fluctuation pre and during adolescence because those are the years that your body is setting it's "Sets and balance".

Interesting point Frisco about the yoyo dieting as a child. I did that too but not for sports; just because I was a somewhat overweight child and was always trying to remedy that. Yoyo dieted as jr high kid and as a teenager and over and over until i was about 45 and figured out that it always ended up making me fatter in the long run. thats when i decided i would never do traditional dieting again. I discussed this with Dr. C one time and he said that was actually wise as I probably would have ended up heavier had I continued the yoyo efforts. And these were not any extreme goofy fad diets - just reduced calories. Also used phen fen and other things. And I know others in the same boat. So I think you are right. Some of us got the genetics too as I have a MO brother who will soon be getting vsg hopefully.   diane
