Pills Cause Sleeve Ache?

I kept waking up in the night feeling like my Sleevie was unhappy.  This morning I can't face that first sip of tea and it feels like Sleevie is wiggling around in there.  Has anyone has a Sleeve Bug? Does it just run it's course the way a Stomache Bug would?  Anything in particular to do?  Anything to watch out for?  I'm one week from being 1 year out from surgery so I guess it's not bad that this is my first "Sleeve disturbance".  Just feels a little confusing to my brain.

Edited:  DUH!  I switched to 6 horse sized calcium citrate yesterday in an effort to give up the BA chews, hoping to speed up my weight loss and dump those carbs.  I have a feeling Sleevie is rebelling against the pills.  I've had real difficulty with pills or capsules since surgery.

I take the big horse pills from costco.....citrical?  How many do you take at a time?  I don't have any issues I take 3 in the AM and 3 in the PM .  I wait 5 min or so between each pill.....15 min process!  Good luck!

Hi Jim,

I take 2 pills at a time, 3x a day.  I think the problem was that I took 2 at bedtime and they just sat in my sleeve.  Yesterday, after reading what you wrote, I took 2 but spaced them out a few minutes and they went down ok.  I took chews for the second two doses.  I think I need to build up to the 3x a day.  I'm just trying to cut out the carbs from vitamins.  I switched to swallow vitamins the week before and that feels ok.

Thanks for the advice.   Love the avi, BTW :)

Lee, I use liquid Blue Bonnet Calcium (Whole Foods) and haven't had any problems with GI distress. I recently stopped using the BA chews. Too many carbs and sugar alcohols. At work, I started using Vitalady's CA-Mg+2, D3 capsules. The capsules are large, but easier to swallow. I can't face the large calcium pills.

Also, Costco carries a liquid calcium that might be easier on your sleeve.

Gail, it's funny how we're all so different.  I have a bottle of the capsules and they just tear up my Sleeve.  These capsules are coated and go down easily but keeping htem down is something else.  I do have a bottle of liquid calicum in the fridge but cringe at the thought of taking it.

never really had a sleeve but but i am sure its possible just like any other tummy malody. But i bet your bunch of big calcium pills could be the culprit. I take two in the am and two in the pm. am acutally supposed to do 6 , two at a time three times a day, but somehow got mixed up and just do the 4. my labs were fine so will stick with this. maybe you could spread these pills out over the day for awhile like over 4 times so you are not taking so much in the evening. but don't neglect fluid. thats never a good thing.

And there is chewable calcium citrate in tablets. I have had trouble finding it in our small town and I do ok with the costco horse pills , but you might look for chewables that are not the candy stuff. if you stick with the pills maybe you could work up to the 6 over a week or two. a few days with less probably won't hurt anything. I take calcium, fish oil and now red rice yeast capsules twice a day. they are all big and i take them with warm skim milk which helps then go down easier and gets me a bit of calcium and protein too. you could also get the citracal petities which are not all that petite but are smaller than the others. but they contain less per pill so you have to take more of them. again, just spreading it out might help and not taking so many before sleep. gl. let us know what works. diane

Hi Diane,

I looked at the petites but when i saw how many I had to take I knew I'd be in trouble.  Pre-op I never even took a multi so these vitamin routines are all new to me.  My labs are good and I've been really dilligent about getting in the vitamins.  I just figured at a year out I could start doing more swallow vites/calcium.

I just need to spread them out better during the day so that they're not at bedtime.  It's all so confusing.  Thyroid meds, wait 4 hours before calcium.  2 hours between calcium.  wait 2 hours before taking iron (I'm low).  It's like a new religion!!  :)

If a person has a nice chunk of anxt too, it could make for more acidy belly blurg and if a person is not sleeping as well that alone, in addition to the acidy anxt - well that makes me get the belly blurgs.

Oh Hound Mama, you know me too well.  Wednesday night was my biggest angst since surgery so it's not surprising that my Sleevie was playing the wiggle me game.  Combo of angst and horse pills = unhappy leelee.

you know, i am no doctor but if this calcium is giving you difficulty, you might check with doc and see if you can take part citrate and part tums with food or take a somewhat lower dose. No good haveing belly ache. I got mixed up and have all this time been taking only 2/3 of the recommended calcium dose though i do get calcuim with dairly regularly. my numbers came out fine so the lesser dossage was enough. Maybe your doc can help you work this out. Calcium horse pills sure seem to be a big issue for lots of people and even non wls people need to take calcium. Seems like an opportunity for a pharmacutical company to make an easier to take product thats not those choc chews. Like maybe a powder you could stir into some liquid or something. Diane
