The Sweet Potato- Friend or Foe ?????
If you read the criteria above it states that position clearly, and they are ranking their veggies based on having lots of complex carbs, NOT nutrients. 1 cup of sweet baked potato contains 41 carbs (I try to eat less than that in a day!) and 1 cup of broccoli has 2 grams carbs and lots and lots of lovely vitamins.
Just comparing vitamin C, which is very important, broccoli contains twice as much as the potatoes. Broccoli also contains half the sodium as sweet potatoes and contains B vitamins (very important) while sweet potatoes have none. So you really can't compare the two.
But unless you believe that lots of carbs are good for us, sweet potatoes are not a good carb bargain, and there's a reason why Dr. C doesn't have them on his list, and why I wouldn't recommend them. But of course you'll have to do what you think is best. Hope that helps...

I don't think that sweet potatoes should be a daily addition to our diet, especially if we are very carb sensitive, but if used in small amounts, there is a place for them. I also limit my carbs to 40 or under, so sweet potatoes wouldn't fit during the losing phase, but for maintenance, they might fit for some people.
