Pop
Hmmm, not sure what to say here as I quit real pop many years ago and have never liked diet pop and don't drink it. Not sure of the reason we are told not to drink diet soda - maybe the carbonation being bad for the tender sleeve early out. I still have enough restriction that i feel like anything carbonated would be uncomfortable but if it doesn't bother you, I guess I don't think its too horrible provided it doesn't become a "gateway drug" and lead you to eating inapproprate things like fast food when you get a diet soda at such a place. You know yourself and whether you think this will happen. My husband buys diet soda in these "mini" 8 oz cans and has one a day and the small portions might be a good thing even though its more expensive and creates more recycling.
Many of us have our secret vices that we indulge in and yet manage to do so without weight gain. I for one LOVE coffee with half and half in it. I drank it all my adult life, cutting it out only for a few days before and a few weeks after surgery. I was cleared for coffee at a month and was right back to the coffee with half and half. Now I always journaled it and counted the calories and managed to lose 120 lbs even with having it daily and now maintain. I am drinking some now. Sometimes I put protein in it. Too bad there is no way to put protein in a diet soda but that would be horrible. So my point is that most of us have some item we especially like and are willing to cut out other things in order to have. And as long as we maintain the balance thats ok. But again, can't remember why diet soda is supposed to be so bad besides the carbonation. But you know what, seems like I used to notice that only fat people seem to drink the stuff. go figure. just checked my post op book and while it says to avoid carbonated stuff, doesn't really say why. anyway, gl and let us know how it works out. diane

Carbonation bothers my sleeve. Well, the soda kind does. Something else sparkly like champagne is okay. But also the chemicals they use to put the bubbles into soda really taste gross to me now. I think I just got used to them before but after months and months off the stuff, even a sip is just gross to me now.
